Best Online Coding Classes for Kids, Teens and Adults

The best online coding class is a live one: a real mentor, a small group, a full hour, and a project the student builds and can explain. That is how every Modern Age Coders class runs, for children from six, for teenagers, for college students and for working adults, in Scratch, Python, Java, web development and AI.

Buyer's guide

How to choose the best online coding class: 8 checks

Most families compare coding classes on price and a brochure. These eight checks tell you far more. Use them on us and on anyone else you are considering. For a longer version, read how to choose a coding class for your child.

The short answer

Choose a live class with a real teacher, no more than about ten students, a full hour per lesson, projects your child can explain, and a course built for their age. Then watch a real, unedited class before you pay.

  1. A live teacher, not a video

Recorded courses suit self-driven adults. Most children stall within weeks, because nobody notices the moment they get stuck. In a live class the mentor sees the mistake as it happens and asks the question that fixes it.

HereEvery class is live. Recordings exist only so a missed class is not lost.

  2. A class small enough to be seen

Ask for the exact number, not "small batches". Past about ten students, a teacher is presenting rather than teaching, and quiet students disappear.

Here15 to 20 students in a group, up to 6 in a batch, or 1-on-1.

  3. A full hour, not a 30-minute slot

A short slot spends most of its time on hello and goodbye. Learning a concept, practising it and then using it in something real takes an hour.

HereEvery class is one hour long.

  4. Projects the student can explain

A finished project proves little if the teacher wrote most of it. Ask your child to walk you through their code. If they can explain it, they learned it.

HereStudents build real projects and explain them in class. See what they make in Student Labs.

  5. A course matched to age, not only level

A seven-year-old and a seventeen-year-old beginner need different starting points. Young children learn best with blocks; teenagers are ready for a real language from day one.

HereSeparate tracks for kids 6 to 12, teens 13 to 18, and college students and adults.

  6. Maths taught alongside, not avoided

Programming is applied logic and mathematics. Classes that skip the maths produce students who can copy code but cannot design it.

HereWe teach coding and maths as one subject. Read why coding and maths belong together.

  7. Proof you can check before you pay

Promotional videos are edited. Ask to see a real, unedited class and judge the teaching yourself.

HereReal class recordings are open to watch, free, with a quick Google sign-in. Watch how we teach.

  8. Fees you can read without a sales call

If the price only appears after a counselling call, expect pressure on that call.

HereFees are published on the pricing page and are the same for every coding and maths course.

How classes run

Three ways to learn, one standard of teaching

The syllabus, the mentor and the one-hour class are the same in every format. What changes is how much of the hour belongs to one student.

15 to 20 students

Group class

Where most students start. Enough classmates to learn from, few enough that every student is called on and heard.

  • 8 live one-hour classes a month
  • Classmates of the same age and level
  • A recording if a class is missed
up to 6 students

Small batch

Close to private attention, with a little company. More of each class goes to the student's own code.

  • 8 live one-hour classes a month
  • More time on each student's work
  • A recording if a class is missed
1-on-1

Private classes

Paced entirely around one learner. Suits exam deadlines, adults with fixed schedules, and anyone who wants to move fast.

  • 4 live one-hour classes a month
  • Class times set around the student
  • Missed classes rescheduled with notice

Recordings

Miss a class and a recording of it will be provided.

Progress updates

Parents get regular updates on what was covered and how it is going.

Pause for exams

Pause for exams or holidays with a week's notice and keep your place.

Certificate

A Modern Age Coders certificate when the course is complete.

Learning path

What to learn at each age

A map, not a rule. A strong ten-year-old may start where a typical teenager does, and your mentor will suggest the right starting point. For the bigger picture, see the coding roadmap and the best coding languages for ages 10 to 18.

  1. 6
    to 8

    Block coding and first logic

Scratch and other block tools teach sequence, loops and events without typing getting in the way. Children see their logic run instantly, which is what keeps a six-year-old coming back. Start with Scratch Coding for Kids.

  2. 9
    to 12

    A first real language

Python, simple websites and game building. By nine or ten most children type well enough to write real code, and they are proud of it. Try Python and AI for Kids or Web Development for Kids.

  3. 13
    to 15

    Depth in one language

Python or Java learned properly: functions, data structures and projects that take weeks, not minutes. See Python for Teens and Java for Teens.

  4. 16
    to 18

    Specialise

Web development, AI and machine learning, data structures, or exam computer science for boards and AP. Options include Full Stack for Teens, AI and Machine Learning for Teens and AP Computer Science A.

  5. 18 +

    Career skills

Full stack development, data structures for interviews, generative AI and AI coding agents, at a pace that fits college or work. See the Full Stack Developer Course, DSA and Codex and Claude Code for professionals.

Questions

Online coding classes: common questions

More answers, on demos, fees, recordings and setup, are on the full FAQ page.

What are the best online coding classes for kids?

The best online coding classes for kids are live, taught by a real mentor to a small group, a full hour long, and built around projects the child can explain. Modern Age Coders teaches exactly that for ages 6 to 12, starting with Scratch and moving on to Python, web development and game building. It is rated 4.9 across 547 Google reviews.

At what age can a child start online coding classes?

From 6. Children aged 6 to 8 start with block coding such as Scratch, which teaches logic without heavy typing. Around 9 or 10 most are ready for a real language like Python. Read more in the best age to start coding.

Are live coding classes better than recorded courses?

For most children, yes. Recorded courses suit self-driven adults, but a child who gets stuck on a video usually stops. In a live class the mentor sees the mistake as it happens, and that is where most of the learning takes place.

How many students are in each class?

A group class has 15 to 20 students. A mini batch has up to 6. You can also choose 1-on-1 classes with a mentor to yourself. See small batches and 1-on-1 classes for how each one works.

How long is each class, and how often do classes run?

Every class is one hour. Group classes and small batches meet 8 times a month. 1-on-1 classes run 4 times a month in India and 8 times a month for students outside India.

Can teenagers and adults join, or is it only for kids?

Anyone from 6 to 67 can join. Teens have their own tracks in Python, Java, web development and AI, and college students and working adults have career courses in full stack development, data structures and algorithms, generative AI and AI agents. Browse them all in the course atlas.

Can we see a class before paying?

Yes. Real, unedited class recordings are free to watch with a quick Google sign-in on how we teach. You can also join the free demo waiting list, or book a Priority Live Demo, a paid demo class at a time you choose, usually today or tomorrow.

What happens if my child misses a class?

A recording of the class will be provided. Students in 1-on-1 classes can also reschedule if they tell us in advance, and any student can pause classes for exams or holidays with a week's notice and keep their place.

Do students get a certificate?

Yes. Every student receives a Modern Age Coders certificate on completing a course, and parents get regular progress updates along the way.
