Program Overview

11 plus maths does not go beyond the national curriculum; what makes it hard is that it asks Key Stage 2 mathematics at speed, in unfamiliar wording, against children who have often prepared for years. This 8-month live course covers the full ground in a teaching order that builds: number fluency first, because a child who hesitates over 7 times 8 loses time on every question that follows; then fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio and proportion, early algebra, geometry and measures, and data. The final two months turn knowledge into test performance: multi-step word problems, timing strategy, multiple-choice technique, and a run of practice papers in the style of GL Assessment, which now sets the tests for most grammar schools in England.

We are honest about the landscape. CEM stopped producing its familiar paper-based 11 plus tests in 2023 and most regions that used them have moved to GL, so we do not sell CEM prep as if those regional tests still run. Families targeting independent schools that use the online ISEB Pre-Tests or their own papers get practice aligned to those formats. And we are honest about outcomes: good preparation raises a child's chances and steadies their nerves, but grammar school places are competitive and nobody can promise one.

What Makes This Program Different

  • Aligned to the tests as they are now: GL Assessment for most grammar schools, ISEB Pre-Tests for many independents, and bespoke papers such as the CSSE in Essex, with practice matched to your target schools
  • No false CEM promises: CEM's paper-based regional tests ended in 2023, and our format practice reflects what children will actually sit
  • Number fluency is drilled before anything else, because test timing punishes slow arithmetic more than any missing topic
  • Word problems are treated as a skill of their own: reading, extracting and choosing the operation, taught explicitly rather than assumed
  • Two full months of timed technique and practice papers, with a marked review after every paper and an error log per child
  • Live small classes where the teacher watches the child work, plus honest monthly notes to parents about readiness

Your Learning Journey

Phase 1
Number fluency: place value, all four operations mental and written, tables cold, factors, multiples, primes and sequences
Phase 2
Fractions, decimals and percentages as one connected system, then ratio, proportion and best-value reasoning
Phase 3
Early algebra, geometry, measures and data: missing numbers and simple equations, shapes, angles, area, units, charts and averages
Phase 4
Test craft: multi-step word problems, timing strategy, multiple-choice technique and a full practice-paper cycle with marked reviews

Career Progression

1
The full 11 plus maths syllabus covered with two months reserved for timed practice
2
Arithmetic speed that holds up under test timing
3
A tested routine for word problems: read, extract, choose, check
4
Familiarity with GL-style multiple-choice papers and answer sheets before test day
5
A stronger Year 6, whatever the test result: the same maths underpins KS2 SATs and secondary school entry
