Not roughly half. Ninety-seven and ninety-seven. It is the kind of figure that ought to be better known, and it is the reason this page exists.

What this does show

At the level of Oman's national collegiate programming contest, in its eighth edition, women were not a minority presence, a special category or a diversity target. They were half the field. Whatever a family might assume about who competes in this subject in the Gulf, the ministry's own participation figures do not support it.

That is worth knowing for one very practical reason. A great many decisions about what a child should study are made on an assumption about who does that subject, and assumptions of that kind are usually inherited rather than checked. This one is checkable, and it is published.

What it does not show

We are not going to overstate a single figure. One contest, at university level, in one year, says nothing definitive about what happens in schools, about who continues into work afterwards, or about any individual student's experience. It is one data point and it is a striking one; it is not a proof that everything downstream is fine.

Nor does it tell us anything at all about how anybody learns. We make no claim anywhere on this page that girls learn this subject differently, need different material, or need it delivered more gently. We do not believe that, we have seen no evidence for it, and no part of our teaching is built on it.

The practical questions, answered plainly

How the classes are actually arranged

Families who arrive at a page like this usually have specific logistical questions rather than philosophical ones. Here are the answers without any surrounding argument.

Batches are mixed

We do not run girls-only batches and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a page like this. Groups of five to eight are assembled on demonstrated ability from an intake across twenty-five countries, which is the only basis that reliably produces a class at the right level.

One to one is available

For families who would prefer private teaching, for any reason at all, that option exists at USD 150 a month and requires no explanation to us. It is also frequently chosen for reasons that have nothing to do with this page, such as an examination year or an awkward household schedule.

The syllabus is identical

The same five rungs, the same courses, the same projects, the same standards. There is no separate track, no reduced version and no different material. A student is placed by what they can do in the free first class and by nothing else.

Teachers and cameras

Sessions are live video with screen sharing. If a family has preferences about cameras or about who teaches, raise it on the free call; we would rather arrange something workable at the start than have somebody uncomfortable in week three.

Nothing is published without you

Rung five involves a public GitHub repository. No personal information, no photographs and no real names of other people go into it, and for a learner under eighteen a parent knows the account exists. Those rules apply to every student.

Adults too

Ages six to sixty-seven. Women returning to technical work, or moving into it from another field, are a routine part of the intake and usually go one to one because the syllabus can then bend entirely around the objective.

One thing we will not do is invent a separate syllabus. A student here follows the same five rungs as every other student: Python written by hand, then data, then machine learning with a measured error, then agents, then a published project. The roadmap is the same document for everybody, and it is the same document we would hand a forty year old.

It is worth being explicit about why that matters rather than leaving it as a principle. A lighter version of a subject is not a kindness; it is a decision made on somebody's behalf about how far they will go, taken before anybody has watched them work. The free first class exists precisely so that the placement is made from evidence, in fifteen minutes, by a teacher looking at what the learner actually does with a problem. Occasionally that puts a student lower than a parent expected and occasionally considerably higher, and both of those are more useful than an assumption.

The obvious follow-up question

If it is half at university, what happens before and after?

This is the question the figure invites, and we are going to answer it by saying what we do and do not know rather than by filling the gap with something confident.

Before. We have not found published Omani figures broken down by sex for school-level participation in computing, and we are not going to estimate them. What is published is the national picture at the top of the school system: the 2025/26 National Olympiad for Scientific Innovations, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence drew more than 250 students and 108 supervising teachers and specialists, entering 70 projects across four fields. That tells you the scale of the visible stage. It does not tell you who is on it.

If you know your own school's picture, you know more than we do about that, and it is a fair question to put to them.

After. Participation in a contest is not the same as entering a profession, and one is a much weaker predictor of the other than people assume. We have no Omani employment data to offer here and will not pretend otherwise.

What we would say is narrower and, we think, more useful. The thing a student controls is what they can demonstrate. Whatever the picture turns out to be at either end of that university figure, a learner who arrives with three finished, documented, publicly readable projects is arguing from evidence rather than from a category. That is the whole reason rung five exists in this curriculum, and it is why it is the rung we push hardest on every page in this family.

The thing that actually travels

A repository does not know who wrote it

The fifth rung of this ladder is publishing work where a stranger can open it: code on GitHub, a running address, a stated error rate, an honest note about what it cannot do. There is a reason that rung matters here in particular.

A person reading a repository is reading commits, tests and reasoning. They can see when the work was done, how it evolved, and whether the author understood their own system. What they cannot see, unless they go looking for it, is anything about who the author is. That is not a solution to anything structural, and we are not claiming it is. It is simply a true and useful property of the artefact.

So the advice we would give any student, and it is the same advice regardless of who is asking, is to accumulate that artefact early and consistently. Three finished things with a visible history at seventeen is a strong position from anywhere in Oman, and it is a position built entirely out of work rather than out of access.

What families ask us about this

Do you run girls-only classes?

No, and we would rather say so directly than let a page imply it. Batches of five to eight are mixed and are assembled on demonstrated ability drawn from an intake across twenty-five countries, because that is the only way to reliably put a learner with peers at their own level. If a family would prefer private teaching, one to one is available at USD 150 a month and no explanation is required.

Is the syllabus different?

It is identical, and deliberately so. The same five rungs, the same courses, the same projects, the same standards for what counts as finished. We do not believe girls need different material and we have seen nothing to suggest it. A student is placed by what they can do in the free first class, and by nothing else.

Why does this page exist at all, then?

Because families search for it, and because there is one genuinely useful fact to put in front of them. My daughter is the only girl interested in this at her school. Does that matter?

For motivation it can, which is a real and often underrated problem. What an online batch changes is the reference group: a learner is grouped with people at their own level from twenty-five countries rather than with whoever happens to be in their year, so being unusual locally stops being the same thing as being alone. That is one of the more common reasons families give us for choosing this over a local option.

How much does it cost?

A group batch of five to eight students is USD 100 a month and one to one teaching is USD 150 a month, billed in US dollars, the same flat figures everywhere outside India. There is no enrolment fee, no annual contract, and the first class is free without a card.

Are there rules about cameras and privacy?

Sessions are live video with screens shared, because a teacher who cannot see the code being written cannot catch a misconception as it forms. If a family has preferences about cameras or about who teaches, raise it on the free call and we will arrange what we can. The public repository work carries firm rules for every student: no personal information, no photographs, no real names of other people.

What age should a girl start?

The same ages as anybody: from six for the thinking, from around nine to twelve for Python written by hand, and from twelve to sixteen for machine learning. The roadmap page sets out the whole ladder with what a parent would see at home at each stage, and it is the same document regardless of who is reading it.

Do you teach women returning to technical work?

Yes, and it is a common one to one request. Ages six to sixty-seven are taught. The usual shape is somebody with a specific objective, often automating work they already do or moving into a data role from an adjacent field, and private teaching suits that because the syllabus can skip whatever is already known.

Will this help with university applications?

The published project will, more than the classes themselves. Grades compress and links do not, so a repository with commits dated across months and an honest note about what a model cannot do gives an admissions reader something to actually assess. We would not claim more than that, and we cannot promise outcomes.

What happens after we send the form?

A mentor calls you at an Omani hour to arrange the free session. Nothing is charged and no card is asked for. The form opens a conversation rather than an enrolment and holds no seat in any batch. Which rung the learner starts on, the format and the evening are all settled on that call ahead of any discussion of money.

One task, and a placement based on it

The free first session is a lesson rather than a sales call. A learner attempts one problem chosen for their age while the teacher reads how they approach it, and that fifteen minutes settles which of the five rungs they start on. If there are logistical preferences your family would like arranged, the same call is the right time to raise them.
