What are the best coding classes in Wadi Al Maawil?
More than fifteen castles stand in this wilayat, and Al Safala Castle is the one on the emblem. Measure that one, multiply by fifteen, and you have described a wilayat nearly five times the size of the real one. Learners between 6 and 67 study coding, Python, AI and mathematics with us, live and online. The opening class is free. Then it is USD 100 a month in a group, or USD 150 one to one.
This is a wilayat of forts, crafts and a newly opened heritage walkway in Al Batinah South. It also offers the cleanest lesson in sampling available anywhere: the building everyone photographs is the building least like all the others.
Facts last verified 23 August 2026. Teaching is online; no Wadi Al Maawil branch is claimed.
Four routes from noticing that one thing is much bigger than the rest to writing code that will not extrapolate from a sample it did not choose.

See the syllabusA wilayat with one famous landmark and many quiet ones is a wilayat where the available evidence and the representative evidence are different things.
Al Safala Castle carries the emblem of this ancient wilayat and takes centre stage in every account of the place. Being chosen as the symbol is precisely what disqualifies it from standing in for the average.
Over 15 castles stand within the boundary, each described as a testament to the past. Fifteen is small enough to measure properly and large enough that nobody bothers, which is the size at which sampling errors live.
Skilled craftsmen here continue making daggers, jewellery, pottery and objects from palm fronds. Four named crafts described in one sentence is four categories somebody will eventually try to count.
Availability is not representativeness
The castle with a road to it, a photograph and a paragraph written about it is the castle you will measure. Nothing about that process selects for typical. It selects for notable, and notable is the opposite of typical by definition.
Each claim traced, with the disagreements left visible.
Al Safala Castle is described as taking centre stage and bearing the emblem of this ancient wilayat. That is a published statement about its prominence, not about its size, and the page keeps those two apart.
The wilayat is credited with over 15 castles. The word over makes it a lower bound, so the page uses fifteen as the smallest number consistent with the source rather than as a count.
Daggers, jewellery, pottery and palm fronds are named as living crafts rather than museum pieces. A working craft has output that varies by maker, which is the same shape of problem as castles that vary by site.
A heritage walkway has been opened in the wilayat. New access changes which sites get visited and therefore which get measured, which is this page's subject arriving in real life.
One reference gives 20,206 for 2020 and a population database gives 20,174 for the same census. The gap is 32 people. Neither is presented here as the figure, because a page about choosing evidence badly should not quietly choose between them.
Wadi Al Maawil sits in Al Batinah South, inland of the coast road among the wadis running off the mountains. Its neighbours are described on their own pages.
Modern Age Coders is not connected to any castle, craft or walkway named above and claims no association. The wilayat is used here because one famous building among many quiet ones is the clearest picture of a biased sample there is.
One measurement, taken carefully, from the one site anybody would pick, scaled up the obvious way, and wrong by nearly a factor of five.
Al Safala, the one on the emblem, with a road and a description. Say it is 1,800 square metres. The floor areas throughout this project are teaching values, since no survey of them is published, and the page says so.
Fifteen castles at 1,800 square metres each gives 27,000 square metres of historic floor area in the wilayat. Every step of that is arithmetic nobody would query.
The real total is 5,740. The estimate is 370 per cent too high. Al Safala on its own is 31 per cent of all the floor area in the wilayat, and only four of the fifteen castles are even above the mean.
| Approach | Figure | Error | Why somebody would do it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measure all fifteen | 5,740 sq m | none, this is the truth | Slow and nobody funds it |
| Scale up the emblem | 27,000 sq m | 370 per cent too high | It is the one with a road |
| Scale up the median | 3,900 sq m | 32 per cent too low | Sounds cautious, still wrong |
| Al Safala as a share | 31 per cent of the whole | n/a | One site, a third of the total |
| Castles above the mean | 4 of 15 | n/a | The mean describes almost none of them |
| Mean against median | 383 against 260 | 47 per cent apart | The gap is the warning |
Nothing in this data hides. A mean of 383 beside a median of 260 says plainly that something large is pulling the average, and only four of fifteen sitting above the mean says it again. Both numbers were available before anybody extrapolated. The failure is not statistical subtlety, it is not looking. Every figure above was computed before this was written.
Five habits, each quick, and any one of them stops the extrapolation.
| Stage | Rule | What it prevents | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Declare | Write down how this item was selected | Convenience passing as randomness | A sentence a reader can attack |
| Compare | Print the mean beside the median | A skew nobody looked for | A one-glance warning |
| Count | Say how many items beat the mean | An average describing almost nothing | The shape of the distribution in one number |
| Bound | Give a range rather than a point when extrapolating | One tidy figure quoted onward | An honest span |
| Resist | Refuse to scale from a single item at all | Fifteen times the wrong number | A measurement instead of a guess |
Fifteen paper rectangles, one of them far larger than the rest. The child measures the big one, guesses the total, then measures them all. The gap between the guess and the answer needs no explaining, and no screen.
The fifteen areas in Python, with mean, median and the count above the mean printed together, then both extrapolations shown beside the true total. The learner writes the check that flags any dataset where mean and median differ by more than a set share.
Selection method is recorded next to every sample, skew is checked before any extrapolation, and scaling from a single observation is treated as an estimate with a range rather than as a result.
The castle count, the emblem, the crafts and the heritage walkway are published. The fifteen floor areas are teaching values, because no survey of them was found, and every place they appear says so. The behaviour is a property of skewed distributions and holds whatever the real areas turn out to be.
The free class is where we work out which rung actually has the next gain on it for this learner.

Where the historic settlements are spread through the wadis, so are the families. A lesson delivered over a connection reaches the far end of the wilayat on exactly the same terms as the near end.
A real lesson with a real task, ending in a specific recommendation. We ask for no card to book it and no commitment before anybody has watched us teach.
Cohorts form around present ability and intended destination. Which village a learner is in plays no part, and that is the thing a fixed classroom can never offer.
One teacher and one learner, for a dated examination or one particular gap that a shared plan would only be able to route around.
Two live sessions weekly at a slot agreed once, at enrolment, rather than rebuilt every week around school, work and the harvest.
That is the gap between Oman and India. Terms, working hours, examination seasons and Ramadan all come up before a recurring time is written down.
The learner has to be shown the fourteen they did not measure
A learner who measures Al Safala carefully and multiplies has done nothing a marker could circle. What moves them is a teacher asking how they chose that castle, and then leaving the question alone until the answer turns out to be because it was the one I had heard of.

The first task might be fifteen paper rectangles, a Python summary printing mean beside median, or a real estimate at work that was built from one convenient case.
Local facts, teaching method and terms of service, each answered separately.
The wilayat is published as having over 15 castles, with Al Safala Castle carrying its emblem, and those are used as published. The fifteen floor areas in the project are teaching values, because no survey of them was found, and the page labels them wherever they appear.
Because fame is a selection process and it does not select for typical. A site becomes the emblem by being unusual, so the very property that made it easy to find is the property that makes it unrepresentative. The easier a case was to obtain, the more carefully its selection needs stating.
No. No premises are claimed in Wadi Al Maawil or anywhere in Al Batinah South. Classes are live online and need a laptop or desktop, working audio, a current browser and a stable connection. The page describes where the service reaches, not a building.
Because two references disagree. One gives 20,206 for the 2020 census and a population database gives 20,174 for the same census, a gap of 32 people. Both are stated and neither is adopted, because a page about choosing evidence badly should not quietly pick a side.
Yes, to an upper age of 67. The adult track runs through Python, analytics and reporting. Anyone who has ever sized a whole market from the one customer they could get a meeting with has already run this experiment. Where the figures are yours to bring, they work better than ours.
A sample with its selection method written beside it, a summary that prints mean and median together, and a refusal to scale from a single case without a stated range. Those three travel with them into any tool.
The first class is free. Standard group tuition is USD 100 per month for two live lessons each week, normally eight lessons monthly. Standard private tuition is USD 150 per month for one learner with one teacher on the same usual frequency. Course, format, recurring time and availability are confirmed before payment.
A group normally contains five to eight compatible learners. Compatibility includes current level, learning pace and objective, not age alone. Private tuition is one learner with one teacher. If no suitable group is ready, a learner can discuss private tuition or wait for an appropriate cohort.
Oman is one and a half hours behind India. The teacher and learner agree a recurring time before payment, generally for two live lessons each week. Friday and Saturday options may be discussed subject to availability. School, work and travel schedules, examinations and Ramadan routines should be mentioned before confirmation.
We work out what the learner is trying to become able to do and set one task there. A child measures the biggest rectangle, guesses the total, then measures the lot. A teenager prints mean beside median and explains the gap. An adult is asked how the one case behind an estimate of theirs was chosen. A course, a format, a time and the USD fee follow, and the class itself is free.
Fees, delivery and the full catalogue sit on the Oman coding hub. Along the same mountains, Nakhal covers a total that counted the same water twice and Rustaq takes on modular arithmetic.
