Coding classes in Mawaleh that put every observation back into the median
The short answer
Mawaleh’s wholesale fruit-and-vegetable role changed when Silal began operating in Barka, while retail remained in Mawaleh. Modern Age Coders runs teacher-led online lessons in coding and mathematics for people from age 6 to 67. Placement starts without charge. Group classes cost USD 100 monthly; one-to-one classes cost USD 150.
Mawaleh is both a school district and the name attached to Muscat's long-running fruit-and-vegetable market. Its wholesale role changed when Silal began operating in Barka, while retail remained in Mawaleh. That changing system makes an important data lesson visible: summaries cannot be combined as if every source group contained the same evidence.
See nationwide delivery and pricing on the Oman coding hub, or compare the capital through the Muscat guide. This page concentrates on two local bilingual schools, the market's dated operating facts and a median-of-medians error that produces 4 when the pooled answer is 8.

These details come from the schools, Muscat Municipality and official public-sector reporting. They are local evidence, not endorsements.
Al Mawaleh Private School has taught locally since 1996
Al Mawaleh Private School says it is a private bilingual school supervised by the Ministry of Education and has educated Omani and expatriate children in South Mawaleh since 1996.
The school describes bilingual education from KG through Grade 12, with a monolingual programme in Grades 9 to 12. Its Primary section follows Cambridge Primary for English, mathematics and science. A programme label supplies context, while the free Modern Age Coders class checks what one learner can independently do.
The school publishes a detailed campus inventory
The same official page lists 27 classrooms, two IT labs, two science laboratories and four SmartBoard classrooms. It also records four separate school yards, two playgrounds, a library, art room, cafeteria, swimming pool and site-wide wired and wireless internet.
An inventory is not an ability score. Access to two IT labs does not reveal whether a learner has designed a database, and Cambridge mathematics does not reveal which concepts transfer into code. Direct work remains the safer placement evidence.
Sarh Al Elm adds another bilingual stage pattern
Sarh Al Elm School says it was founded in 2004 in South Mawaleh. It describes a bilingual programme divided into Kindergarten, Level 1 for Grades 1 to 4 and Level 2 for Grades 5 to 6.
Those grouped levels are useful when asking for current school work, but a Grades 5 to 6 label is still broader than a coding placement. The teacher changes an input or representation and observes whether the learner can transfer the underlying rule.
Mawaleh's market is now retail-focused
An official OPAZ publication says Silal began operations at the end of June 2024, with wholesale moving to the new market in Barka while Mawaleh focuses on retail. It says the change followed nearly 30 years of relying on Mawaleh for both roles.
A 2026 Consumer Protection Authority report confirms ongoing inspection of vegetable and fruit prices and availability at Silal. Current wholesale facts therefore belong to Barka, not to a timeless Mawaleh record.
Historic figures need a date and status
Muscat Municipality's market account records a historic total area of 185,244 square metres, a 5,600-square-metre main canopy, about 500 companies and 438 numbered tables for local producers. These explain Mawaleh's former central-market scale. They are not a current Silal inventory.
Local facts last verified 16 August 2026 against the linked school and official public-sector sources.
The middle stall's middle is not the market's middle
All values are synthetic USD unit prices. They are not observed prices from Mawaleh, Silal or any named trader.
The shortcut that returns 4
Stall A contributes USD 1, USD 2 and USD 100, so its median is USD 2. Stall B contributes USD 3, USD 4 and USD 5, so its median is USD 4. Stall C contributes the nine values from USD 6 through USD 14, so its median is USD 10.
The three stall medians are 2, 4 and 10. Taking their median returns USD 4. That calculation gives each stall one vote even though Stall C contributes three times as many observations as each smaller stall.
stalls = {
"A": [1, 2, 100],
"B": [3, 4, 5],
"C": [6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14]
}
stall_medians = [2, 4, 10]
median_of_medians = 4The pooled median is 8
Pooling all 15 prices produces the ordered sequence 1 through 14 followed by 100. The eighth observation is USD 8, so USD 8 is the overall median. The group summaries cannot reconstruct that order because they discarded twelve of the fifteen observations.
from statistics import median
all_prices = [x for prices in stalls.values() for x in prices]
overall_median = median(all_prices) # 8A weighted average of the stall medians would not repair this. Medians are order statistics, not totals that combine through group weights. The correct approach is to retain the raw observations or use a valid distributed quantile method with sufficient rank information.
| Group | Observation count | Values | Group median |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stall A | 3 | 1, 2, 100 | 2 |
| Stall B | 3 | 3, 4, 5 | 4 |
| Stall C | 9 | 6 through 14 | 10 |
| Median of three medians | 3 summaries | 2, 4, 10 | 4 |
| Pooled dataset | 15 raw values | 1 through 14, then 100 | 8 |
Required conclusion
Ask for the statistic over the combined observations, not the middle of independently computed middles. If raw rows are unavailable, say the overall median cannot be recovered from the group medians alone.
Regroup the data and see whether the explanation survives
| Context | Live task | Teacher looks for | Possible path |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary learner | Order cards and identify the middle | Counts position after sorting | Mental maths or blocks |
| Middle-school learner | Combine groups of unequal size | Returns to all observations | Maths through coding |
| Teen learner | Write SQL or Python for the pooled median | Tests odd, even and empty datasets | Python, MySQL, statistics |
| Adult learner | Audit an existing grouped report | Names grain, rank and missing raw data | Data analysis or databases |
A recent artefact helps
A spreadsheet, code file or maths solution gives the teacher real decisions to inspect.
Changed groups expose memorisation
A method understood only for the original arrangement will fail when the same values are regrouped.
Starting later is valid
If examinations or workload prevent practice, the teacher may recommend waiting rather than selling a poor-fit course.

Mawaleh coding class answers
Can Al Mawaleh Private School students join these classes?
Yes. The school describes bilingual education from KG to Grade 12, with a monolingual option in Grades 9 to 12 and Cambridge Primary for English, mathematics and science. Modern Age Coders is independent of the school. A free live task places each learner from actual reasoning and code rather than a grade or programme label.
Can Sarh Al Elm learners enrol?
Yes. Sarh Al Elm says it was founded in 2004 in South Mawaleh and offers a bilingual programme from Kindergarten through Grade 6. Modern Age Coders begins at age 6. The teacher uses a recent task and a changed example to find the learner's working level without claiming that the external course belongs to the school.
What is the Mawaleh median-of-medians project?
Three synthetic stalls contain 3, 3 and 9 values. Their individual medians are 2, 4 and 10, so the median of those medians is 4. Pooling all 15 observations gives a true overall median of 8. Learners explain why equal weight for unequal groups loses information, then implement and test the correct aggregation.
Are the project prices from Mawaleh market?
No. The values are invented for teaching and are not observed fruit, vegetable, wholesale or retail prices. Official sources establish the market's history and changing role, but they do not supply this dataset. The exercise deliberately separates local facts from synthetic values so no result can be mistaken for a market price claim.
Does Modern Age Coders operate a Mawaleh centre?
No. Modern Age Coders is an Indian provider delivering live online lessons. It has no classroom, branch, street address or Omani telephone number in Mawaleh. The displayed +91 number is the real Indian WhatsApp and telephone contact. The first class is free, allowing a family to check the teacher and connection before paying.
Did wholesale activity remain at Mawaleh Central Market?
No. Official reporting says Silal began operations in Barka in late June 2024 and wholesale activity moved there, while Mawaleh's market retained a retail focus. Historic Mawaleh figures remain useful when dated, but they should not be presented as the current wholesale structure. The distinction is an example of why data needs status and effective dates.
Can adults in Mawaleh take these classes?
Yes. Modern Age Coders teaches ages 6 to 67. Adults may study Python, web development, databases, data analysis, automation or mathematics after the free placement class. A useful starting point is a defined report, repetitive task or application. The course does not grant credit from a Mawaleh school, Omani institution or employer.
How much do Mawaleh coding classes cost?
The monthly group plan costs USD 100 for eight live lessons and five to eight learners. The private plan costs USD 150 for eight lessons with one student and one teacher. Both normally meet twice weekly. The first class is free, and Modern Age Coders adds no enrolment fee, compulsory materials purchase or minimum term.
How are class times coordinated for Oman?
Oman is one and a half hours behind India. The teacher and family agree the recurring time before payment, usually for two lessons per week. Friday and Saturday possibilities can be discussed subject to availability. A timing review may be requested when Ramadan, examinations or an adult work schedule materially changes the learner's availability.
What is needed for the free Mawaleh class?
Use a laptop or desktop, microphone and stable video-capable internet. Bring a recent coding file, maths solution, spreadsheet or school task if available. The teacher may regroup a small dataset and ask why its combined median changes. A tablet can join a call but is limiting for code editors, files and database tools.
Bring the rows, not only the summary
A teacher can test grouping, order and code when the underlying work is visible. A screenshot of one final median hides the decisions placement needs.
