How we teach
Deep understanding. Real projects. Expert guidance.
Learn coding, AI and maths through careful explanations, practical demonstrations, and hands-on problem-solving. Our instructors guide you from the foundations to advanced ideas, helping you understand what happens, why it happens, and how to build it yourself.
You will explore concepts step by step, write and improve code, investigate mistakes, ask questions, and apply your knowledge to meaningful projects. Lessons are designed around active participation, thoughtful feedback, and growing independence.
Expert-led live teaching, with practical participation built into every lesson.
- Students explain their thinking.
- Instructors demonstrate, then guide practice.
- Learners code, solve, or build during lessons.
- Questions and misconceptions get attention.
- Assignments receive useful feedback.
- Progress is checked before advancing.
Program Overview
This is a live online course for pupils in Germany, roughly ages 9 to 19, who want to take part in the German informatics competitions and do well in them. It runs from computational thinking puzzles for the Informatik-Biber, through programming tasks for the Jugendwettbewerb Informatik, to algorithmic problems for the Bundeswettbewerb Informatik, plus a machine-learning project track for the Bundeswettbewerb Künstliche Intelligenz (BWKI).
Classes are live and taught in English only. The mentor matches each pupil's pace and accent: speaks clearly, slows down, rephrases and checks understanding. A pupil whose first language is German gets competition training and English practice in the same class, and English fits this field well: code is written in English words, and the BWKI accepts projects in German or English ("Projekte dürfen sowohl auf deutscher wie auch auf englischer Sprache abgegeben werden"). We never teach in German.
The competitions form a ladder, all run by their organisers, not by us. BWINF calls the Informatik-Biber "Deutschlands größter Schülerwettbewerb im Bereich Informatik": a free online quiz for Jahrgangsstufen 3 to 13 that takes 30 to 40 minutes, and the 2026 Biber weeks run from 9 to 20 November 2026. The Jugendwettbewerb Informatik is open from Jahrgangsstufe 3, with a new level system from 2026 (Bronze for Klasse 5 and 6, Silber for 7 to 9, Gold from 10), and its 2026 round 3, using the two junior tasks of the Bundeswettbewerb, closes on 23 November 2026. The 45th Bundeswettbewerb Informatik, for young people up to 21 not yet studying or working, runs round 1 from 1 September to 23 November 2026, round 2 from early 2027 to April 2027 and round 3 in September 2027; BWINF says round 2 can count as the besondere Lernleistung in the Abitur, depending on Land and school. The BWKI, run by the Tübingen AI Center for Sekundarstufe I and II pupils, asks for a machine-learning project with written documentation, runnable code and a video pitch.
At the top of the ladder is the International Olympiad in Informatics. BWINF says the 39th IOI takes place from 12 to 19 September 2027 at the Hasso-Plattner-Institut in Potsdam, the second time Germany has hosted after 1992, and that the German team is chosen from up to 20 of the strongest participants in the Bundeswettbewerb. Every puzzle, task and mock contest in this course is our own, written in each competition's style; we never reproduce real competition tasks. We are independent of BWINF, the Tübingen AI Center and every organiser, we are not an official partner of any competition, and entries are made through the organisers' own sites, never through us.
What Makes This Program Different
- Live classes in English only, with a mentor who matches your pace and accent: useful practice for a field where code, papers and the BWKI pitch can all be in English
- One ladder from age 9 to 19: Biber puzzles, Jugendwettbewerb tasks, Bundeswettbewerb algorithms and a BWKI machine-learning project
- Batches by level, so a Klasse 4 puzzle solver and a Klasse 12 algorithm student never share a pace
- Written solutions trained as hard as code, because the Bundeswettbewerb asks for explained solutions, not just programs
- A BWKI project track covering data, model, evaluation, documentation, runnable code and a two to four minute video pitch
- Original puzzles and contest tasks only, and honest about what we are: independent, not an official partner of any competition
