How do Doncaster learners study coding and Python online?
In live online lessons where a teacher works through real programs with the learner, starting with Scratch for young children and moving to Python and data. Doncaster has no train station, and its residents lean on buses and cars: the 2021 Census counted 25,020 people, and 45.2% of workers drove to work on Census day.
Doncaster has no railway, so its buses carry the load, and the state timetable feed lists every trip. Ask which routes serve Doncaster on a Wednesday but not at the weekend and you have a perfect Python set problem. The answer takes one line; picking the right operator takes a little more thought.
Facts last verified 10 October 2026. Teaching is online; no Doncaster branch is claimed.
These courses build the skills in the bus-route project, from collections and loops to working with large files. The free trial places each learner on the right one.

| Headline | Doncaster |

The Census counted 1,227 Doncaster residents aged 5 to 9 and 1,115 aged 10 to 14.
In the August 2021 lockdown, 3,602 employed residents, 31.2%, worked from home on Census day.
QuickStats lists no train figure for Doncaster's travel to work, and no station sits inside its boundary.
Because the bureau perturbs small cells for privacy, parts of a QuickStats table need not add to the total; every figure here is quoted as published.
We found the 110 bus stops inside the Doncaster boundary, streamed all 8,589,911 rows of the metropolitan bus timetable, and kept the 17,437 trips that stop at one of them. Then we built one set of route numbers for each of three ordinary days in October 2026.
| Day | Routes | Trips |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 14 October 2026 | 17 | 1,329 |
| Saturday 17 October 2026 | 15 | 763 |
| Sunday 18 October 2026 | 14 | 591 |
| Every one of the three days | 14 |
| Question | Python | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday routes missing at the weekend | wed - (sat | sun) | 309 and 318 |
| Routes on Wednesday or Sunday but not both | wed ^ sun | 281, 309 and 318 |
| Routes that differ between Saturday and Sunday | sat ^ sun | 281 |
| Routes on all three days | wed & sat & sun | 14 routes |
sun - wed is empty, so it would suggest Sunday and Wednesday match. wed - sun shows three routes. Only the symmetric difference, wed ^ sun, reports both directions at once.
The Wednesday list of routes, one per trip, has 1,329 entries. Turning it into a set leaves 17, because a set keeps each route number once.
Two lists of the same routes in a different order are not equal in Python; the same two sets are.
Route 281 serves Doncaster stops on Wednesday and Saturday but not on Sunday, which is why it appears only when Sunday is part of the comparison.
The three days were chosen because no Victorian public holiday falls on them. The timetable is the publisher's; the boundary test, the trip counts and the sets are our calculation, and a real journey should always be checked in the live journey planner.
Python sets support the same operations as the Venn diagrams many students meet in maths. Choosing the operator is choosing the question.
| Operator | Plain English | Doncaster example |
|---|---|---|
| a | b | In either set | Routes on Saturday or Sunday |
| a & b | In both sets | Routes on all three days |
| a - b | In a but not in b | Weekday-only routes |
| a ^ b | In exactly one of the two | Routes where Wednesday and Sunday disagree |
Streaming the timetable a row at a time, rather than loading all of it, kept the program small: it only remembers the trips that matter, then the routes those trips belong to.
Sort coloured blocks into two hoops that overlap, then say which blocks sit in only one hoop.
Build the three day sets from the real feed and check each answer by hand for one route.
Compare two customer lists or two rosters at work with the same four operators.
From the Victorian school locations file, the bus feed and the state calendar.
The 2025 school locations file places 4 schools inside Doncaster: 3 primary and 1 secondary, including Doncaster Primary School, Birralee Primary School and Doncaster Secondary College.
Seven separate stop entries in the feed share the name Doncaster Shopping Centre/Williamsons Rd, one for each bay.
Victorian government school students start Term 1 on Thursday 28 January 2027, and the term finishes on Thursday 25 March.

All Census and bus figures use the ABS boundary of the Doncaster suburb, 8.80 square kilometres; Doncaster East and other parts of Manningham are not included.

Ask an assistant which routes differ between weekdays and Sundays and it may write sun - wed. The result is empty, the code runs cleanly, and a reader could conclude that nothing differs. Three routes are missing from that answer, and only someone who knows what each operator means will notice.
A learner who has built the Doncaster day sets can predict each answer before running it and test the code against one route checked by hand. That is the habit that makes AI-written code safe to use.
The Doncaster learner who can name the operator is the one who can check the code an AI writes. The longer argument is in why teenagers should still learn to code in 2026.
Every class runs on screen at home, so no Doncaster learner has to plan a bus trip to reach a lesson.

Teachers are based in India: a 5pm Doncaster lesson is 11:30am there during daylight saving and 12:30pm once Melbourne's clocks return.
Melbourne time first
Daylight saving in Melbourne runs from Sunday 4 October 2026 to Sunday 4 April 2027. India has no daylight saving, so we always quote lesson times in Melbourne time.

Doncaster families pay in US dollars, as do all families outside India, so the rate is the same for everyone. Nothing is charged before the trial settles a course and time; holidays, absences and format changes are covered on the pricing page.

An age and a hobby are enough to start. An eight-year-old might begin with a Scratch matching game; a secondary student might begin with the bus-route sets.
Questions Doncaster families and adult learners ask us most.
The 2021 Census QuickStats for the Doncaster suburb record 25,020 residents, a median age of 40 and 7,181 families.
A set is a collection that keeps each value only once and has no order. It supports union, intersection, difference and symmetric difference, the same ideas as Venn diagrams.
It is everything that belongs to exactly one of the two sets. In Python it is written a ^ b; for the Doncaster Wednesday and Sunday routes it gives 281, 309 and 318.
On the three October 2026 days we checked, 17 routes served Doncaster stops on the Wednesday, 15 on the Saturday and 14 on the Sunday. Routes 309 and 318 ran on the Wednesday only.
Most children start with Scratch from six and move to Python at around ten, once reading and typing are comfortable.
No. Copilot Studio is a one-to-one subject for us; group learners build their agents in Python instead.
No. Classes are live online only, there is no Australian office, and our listed phone number is an Indian number.
The first lesson is free. Then group lessons are USD 100 a month for two live lessons a week, about eight a month, with fifteen to twenty learners, or USD 150 a month one to one. We agree the course, format and time before any payment.
Fifteen to twenty, grouped by level, pace and aims rather than age or suburb, with one-to-one lessons if no group time works.
Yes. Adults have their own groups or private lessons, and many bring a spreadsheet or report from work to automate.
Over the boundary in the City of Whitehorse, Box Hill has a page of its own. The Melbourne page, coding for Melbourne kids and the Victoria guide cover the rest.
