What is the best coding class in Midleton?
Midleton's 13,779 usual residents live in 4,969 households, and 4,163 of those households have broadband, which is the only connection our lessons need. A teacher takes each lesson live on video, with a few learners at the same stage or with one learner alone, about twice a week, for ages six to sixty-seven. The first lesson is free. Once it is done, group lessons are USD 100 a month and one-to-one lessons USD 150.
Census 2022 asked every worker whether they work from home, and in Midleton 1,918 of the 5,936 who answered said they do, at least some of the time. Put the same answer for 262 towns on a chart against the share of each town's workers in farming, forestry and fishing, and a clear line appears: the more farm workers a town has, the less home-working. It is tempting to read that as a fact about farm workers. The CSO also publishes the answer for workers themselves, grouped by industry, and it points the other way: 54.9 percent of workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing work from home at least one day, against 36.3 percent of all workers. This page builds both views and explains how a pattern among places can reverse among the people who live in them.

See the syllabusTwo census tables answer what sounds like the same question. One compares towns, the other compares workers. The learner builds both and finds they disagree about the direction of the effect.
| Share of workers in farming | Towns | Median share who work from home |
|---|---|---|
| Under 0.5 percent | 38 | 39.1% |
| 0.5 to 1 percent | 64 | 30.0% |
| 1 to 2 percent | 86 | 24.5% |
| 2 to 4 percent | 62 | 22.3% |
| 4 percent or more | 12 | 20.8% |
Fitted through the 262 towns, the line starts at 33.9 percent working from home and falls 2.97 points for every extra point of farm workers. The correlation is minus 0.43, and the slope keeps its sign with the five cities taken out.
Across the State, 36,996 of the 67,394 agriculture, forestry and fishing workers who answered work from home at least one day, 54.9 percent. For all workers it is 747,961 of 2,061,239, or 36.3 percent. Farm workers are above average, not below.
Thirty of Midleton's 6,455 people at work are in farming, forestry or fishing, 0.46 percent, which puts the town in the first band. Its home-working share is 32.3 percent: 1,918 of the 5,936 who answered.
| Industry | Work from home |
|---|---|
| Information and communication | 87.6% |
| Agriculture, forestry and fishing | 54.9% |
| All workers | 36.3% |
| Construction | 16.7% |
| Accommodation and food service | 10.8% |
The town chart is a true statement about towns: in 2022, towns where more of the workforce farmed had lower home-working shares. It is not a statement about farm workers, and treating it as one gives exactly the wrong answer. Pushed to its limit, the fitted line would give a town where every worker farms a home-working rate of minus 263 percent, which no group of people could have. Questions about people need data recorded about people. Data about places answers questions about places, and nothing more.
In code the learner builds the town view first: one row per town with its farm share and home-working share, a scatter chart of all 262 with Midleton marked, and a fitted line. Then they load the national table of workers by industry and compute the individual rates. The two results disagree in sign, and the exercise that follows is to write two sentences, one the chart supports and one it does not. "Towns with more farm workers had lower home-working shares" passes. "Farm workers seldom work from home" fails, and the learner can show which table proves it wrong.
Nothing is miscounted in either table. The difference is in what each one compares.
The chart compares towns with other towns. The national table compares farm workers with other workers. A result at one level carries no guarantee at the other, even when both come from the same census question.
Whatever makes a town's workforce more agricultural may also go with fewer of the jobs that can be done from home. The chart cannot say what that is, and this page does not guess. It only shows that the town line is not about farm workers.
Statisticians call reading a group-level pattern as an individual one the ecological fallacy. It turns up whenever results by county, school, branch or country are used to describe the people inside them.
What this page does not claim
It does not say why farm-heavy towns have less home-working. It also notes that the national table covers every worker in the State, including those who live outside towns, so it is the individual answer for all farm workers rather than for town residents alone.

| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Usual residents | 13,779 |
| Households | 4,969 |
| Households with broadband | 4,163 |
| Working residents in the travel table | 6,408 |
| Journeys to school, college or childcare | 4,013 |
| Children under fifteen in childcare | 1,019 |
| People at work in agriculture, forestry and fishing | 30 of 6,455 |
Of 6,408 working residents, 4,002 drive. Then 687 work mainly at or from home, 542 walk, 279 travel as a car passenger, 264 by van, 186 by train, 102 by bus and 66 by bicycle.
Of 4,013 journeys to school, college or childcare, 2,181 are made as a car passenger and 837 on foot; 386 go by bus, 173 by train and 143 learners drive.
Asked directly, 1,918 working residents work from home at least some of the time, 4,018 never do, and 472 left the question unanswered.
The station
Irish Rail gives the station as Midleton, Co.Cork, Eircode P25 RX85, with sheltered bike parking there. It has no connection with us.
A regular pair of lessons in most weeks, with the teacher live all the way through.
The census-night age table counts 1,561 children aged six to twelve in Midleton. They begin with blocks and games and learn to count and sort before they chart anything.
Midleton has 1,414 people aged thirteen to eighteen. At that age learners move into Python, the web, AI and analysis of real tables, alongside secondary school.
Adults join with whatever they bring, including nothing. The opening lesson places them and the course takes it from there.
All census counts appear exactly as the Central Statistics Office released them. Bands, medians, the fitted line and the industry rates were computed from the town tables and table F7140 on 19 September 2026. Irish Rail is quoted from its own station page and is not connected with us.
Ages are only a guide; the first lesson finds the level.

Give an AI assistant the town chart and ask what it shows, and a natural-sounding summary is that farm workers are less likely to work from home. It reads well, and it is the ecological fallacy in one line. Nothing in the chart supports a claim about individuals, and the national table contradicts it.
A learner who has done this project asks the assistant to label every sentence it writes as being about towns or about people, then checks each one against the table that would support it. That habit transfers to every chart they will ever be shown.
An assistant can draw the chart in seconds. Knowing which kind of question it can answer is still the analyst's job. The longer argument is in why the effort of learning to code pays back.
The arrangements.
The teacher leads every lesson in real time and works from what the learner has built.
Five to ten learners at one stage, from East Cork, the rest of Ireland and abroad.
About eight lessons in a month, on days and at times agreed before starting.
Mid-terms, holidays and exam periods are allowed for from the start.
A laptop or desktop is needed rather than a tablet, with a microphone and speakers or a headset, on the kind of home broadband 4,163 Midleton households already have.
When a learner's level has no group at a time they can attend, or they want the teacher to themselves, lessons run one to one.
Taught from nowhere in particular
Midleton learners join every lesson on video. We have no premises in Midleton or elsewhere in Ireland, and the lesson is the same at any kitchen table with a connection.
The full list.

What Midleton families usually want to know first.
The Census 2022 resident tables count 13,779 usual residents in Midleton, in 4,969 households, of which 4,163 have broadband.
Charting 262 towns by their share of farm workers and their share of home-workers, which shows a clear downward line, then checking it against the national figures for workers themselves, where 54.9 percent of agriculture workers work from home against 36.3 percent of all workers. The two levels disagree.
More, according to the census table of individual workers: 54.9 percent at least one day a week, compared with 36.3 percent overall. The town chart cannot answer that question at all, because it describes towns, not the people in them.
Of 6,408 working residents, 4,002 drive, 687 work mainly at or from home, 542 walk, 279 go as a car passenger, 264 by van, 186 by train and 102 by bus.
After school, in the evening and at weekends. Our teachers in India are four and a half hours ahead of Midleton for the Irish summer and five and a half hours ahead in winter, and slots are picked to work for both.
Yes, up to sixty-seven and from any starting point. The opening lesson shows whether an adult is better placed in a group of similar level or with a private teacher.
Only by chance. Groups are made by level, so a Midleton learner may share a lesson with others in Cobh, Cork city or another country.
No, and we never imply one. Teaching is live over video only, with no premises in Ireland. A learner needs a laptop or desktop, working sound and a steady connection, and the number shown here belongs to India.
The first lesson is free. After that a shared place costs USD 100 a month and brings two live lessons a week, about eight monthly, with five to ten learners; one to one on the same schedule is USD 150 a month. Everything is agreed before payment.
Five to ten, grouped by ability, pace and goal rather than age or address. Where nothing suitable meets at a workable hour, we teach one to one instead.
Close by in the series are Cobh and Carrigaline, with Cork city and the County Cork page above them and Munster above that. If you are weighing up online coding schools, this comparison sets them side by side, and the Ireland hub lists the lot.
