What are the best coding and AI classes in Leinster?

Leinster is the most populous of Ireland's four provinces: 2,835,980 of the State's residents lived in its twelve counties at the 2022 census, in 1,004,936 households. It holds Dublin and its three neighbouring councils, the commuter counties around them and the midlands to the west. We have a separate page for every Leinster county, linked below. Every class we run is live and weekly, placed by ability in groups of five to ten or taught one to one, for learners from six to sixty-seven; the opening lesson is free and afterwards a group place is USD 100 a month and a private one USD 150.

Here is a sum that looks right and is not. The census counts how many working people in each province work from home at least some of the time. Connacht comes to 27.6%, Leinster 35.5%, Munster 28.9% and Ulster, meaning the three Ulster counties in this State, 21.9%. Add the four and divide by four and you get 28.5%. The national figure is 32.1%. Nothing is wrong with the census. The plain average treats each province as equal, and they are not: Leinster alone holds 57.0% of all the working people in the country, so the national figure is mostly Leinster's. Averaging averages without their weights is one of the commonest errors in anything built from grouped numbers, school results and sales regions included.

Why the two numbers differ

A plain average gives Ulster, with 130,188 working people, the same say as Leinster, with 1,308,124. The correct figure lets each province count in proportion to its size, and Leinster is ten times the size of Ulster by this measure.

The check that proves it

Add the four provinces' counts and you get exactly the State's published totals, 736,110 home workers out of 2,293,738. Divide those, not the percentages, and 32.1% falls out.

What a learner writes

Two lines of code, one averaging the shares and one dividing the summed counts, and a sentence explaining why the second is the national figure and the first describes nothing real.

Where the same mistake turns up

A school averages the average marks of five classes of different sizes and reports it as the school average. A company averages the growth rates of a huge region and a tiny one. A league table averages county rates to rank a province. Each time the result is a number that belongs to no actual group of people. The fix is always the same, and it is simple once seen: go back to the counts, add them, and divide once. A teenager who has watched 28.5% turn into 32.1% on real census data does not forget it.

It happens again on household broadband, from table SAP2022T15T2PROV. By our arithmetic 75.7% of households in Connacht, 82.0% in Leinster, 76.3% in Munster and 76.6% in Ulster (part of) had broadband, a plain average of 77.7%, while the national share is 79.4%. Leinster holds 1,004,936 of the State's 1,836,728 households, 54.7%, and pulls the total towards its own figure. The longest journeys

Of people in Leinster who stated a journey time, about 11.6% travel an hour or more to work, school or college, the highest share of the four provinces by our arithmetic, and only about 28.9% get there in under fifteen minutes.

Irish in the east

About 35% of Leinster residents aged three and over say they can speak Irish, the lowest share of the four provinces by our arithmetic, though the largest number, 972,096 people.

Born elsewhere

Of Leinster's residents, 132,195 were born in the United Kingdom, 57,504 in Poland and 39,245 in India, according to the census birthplace table for the province.

What the long commute means for a family

An hour or more each way to work, school or college is a normal day for 185,656 people in this province. Evenings in those households are short, and a class that needs a second journey across the commuter belt competes with the only free hour the family has. A class that begins at the kitchen table does not.

Ask a tool to combine four percentages and it will average them

That is what combining four numbers sounds like, and here it gives the wrong answer.

Hand over the four province shares and ask for the national figure. The simplest reading of the request is a plain average, and 28.5% will come back looking perfectly reasonable. It is not a malfunction. The percentages on their own do not carry the information needed to combine them, and nothing in the question supplied it.

The learner who has done this project asks for the counts behind any percentage before combining it with another. That one habit fixes the error completely, and it is the kind of judgement that stays with a person rather than with a tool.

Tools will do the arithmetic you ask for. Knowing which arithmetic the question needs is still the skill, and it is why building real understanding matters more in 2026, not less. The longer argument is in is coding still a skill worth building in 2026.
