CBSE Class 10 · Artificial Intelligence, code 417 · Exam date 2027 and paper pattern
Every year families search for the AI exam date long before CBSE prints it. The date matters less than what is finished by then. Our live Class 10 AI batch is planned backwards from the board calendar: theory units complete before the winter break, the practical file and project closed for the school assessment, then the sample paper and full mock papers marked against the blueprint below, with doubts settled live in every Monday and Wednesday class.

As of 13 October 2026, CBSE has not published the 2027 Class 10 date sheet, so no official date exists yet for the Artificial Intelligence (417) paper. Last year the AI paper was held on Friday 27 February 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM IST, inside main examinations that ran from 17 February to 11 March. The paper is 50 marks of theory in two hours, 10 from Part A employability skills and 40 from five AI units, with another 50 marks for the practical file, practical exam, project and vivas. Modern Age Coders prepares students for it in a live Monday and Wednesday 9 PM IST batch, or personalised one to one, with mocks and live doubt solving built around that calendar.
Q1. When is the CBSE Class 10 AI exam in 2027?
CBSE announces Class 10 dates on cbse.gov.in in a date sheet circular. Until it appears, any page quoting a 2027 AI date is guessing. We will update this page the day the circular is published.
Checked 13 October 2026: no 2027 Class 10 date sheet on cbse.gov.in. The latest published schedule is for the 2026 examinations.
| 2026 examination | Dates | What it means for 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Main Class 10 examinations | 17 February to 11 March 2026 | Plan for a mid-February start; the AI paper is one paper inside this window |
| Artificial Intelligence (417) | Friday 27 February 2026, 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM IST | The skill subjects sat together in one morning slot, with Computer Applications (165) and Information Technology (402) |
| Second examination | 15 to 21 May 2026 | An optional second sitting for improvement, covered under Q5 below |
When the date sheet arrives, there are usually only two or three months left before the AI paper. By then a student should have finished every theory unit, closed the practical file and the project, and started full papers. The date fixes the day, but your preparation has to be planned well before it. That is why our batch works to a calendar set by the shape of the session rather than waiting for the circular.
Last year the AI paper started at 10:30 AM IST and ran for two hours. Our Monday and Wednesday classes are at 9 PM, so in January the timed mock papers move to weekend mornings, written at home at 10:30 AM and reviewed live in the next class. A student who has only practised at night writes a slower first paper in the morning, and the mocks remove that surprise early.
Q2. What is the CBSE Class 10 AI paper pattern?
The 2026-27 curriculum for code 417 is unchanged from 2025-26: 100 marks in all, split evenly between the written theory paper and a practical assessment your school conducts.
| Component | Marks | Where it is decided |
|---|---|---|
| Part A, employability skills (five units, two marks each) | 10 | Theory paper |
| Part B, Revisiting the AI Project Cycle and Ethical Frameworks | 7 | Theory paper |
| Part B, Advanced Concepts of Modeling in AI | 11 | Theory paper |
| Part B, Evaluating Models | 10 | Theory paper |
| Part B, Computer Vision | 4 | Theory paper |
| Part B, Natural Language Processing | 8 | Theory paper |
| Practical file with at least 15 programs | 15 | School practical |
| Practical examination | 15 | School practical |
| Viva voce on the practical | 5 | School practical |
| Project work, field visit or student portfolio (any one) | 10 | School practical |
| Viva voce on the project | 5 | School practical |
Two Part B units carry no theory marks at all: Statistical Data and Advance Python are examined through the practical. A student who spends January memorising Python syntax for the written paper is preparing for questions that will not appear there, while the four marks of Computer Vision and the eight of Natural Language Processing are left thin. The unit-by-unit content is set out on the 417 syllabus explained, and the employability half of the theory paper has its own page, Part A employability skills.
Q3. How are the questions spread across units?
CBSE publishes a blueprint with each sample paper. The latest official one, for 2025-26, counts every question by unit and type. The 2026-27 sample paper for 417 had not been posted when we checked on 13 October 2026, and the curriculum is unchanged, so this is the design to prepare for.
| Unit | 1-mark objective | 2-mark short | 4-mark long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A: Communication Skills | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Part A: Self-Management Skills | 2 | 1 | 0 |
| Part A: ICT Skills | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Part A: Entrepreneurial Skills | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Part A: Green Skills | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Part A to answer | any 4 of 6 | any 3 of 5 | none |
| Unit 1: AI Project Cycle and Ethical Frameworks | 5 | 1 | 1 |
| Unit 2: Advanced Concepts of Modeling | 4 | 2 | 2 |
| Unit 3: Evaluating Models | 6 | 1 | 1 |
| Unit 5: Computer Vision | 4 | 1 | 0 |
| Unit 6: Natural Language Processing | 5 | 1 | 1 |
| Part B to answer | any 20 of 24 | any 4 of 6 | any 3 of 5 |
Add up what is printed: 30 objective marks for 24 counted, 10 Part A written marks for 6, 12 short-answer marks for 8 and 20 long-answer marks for 12. That is 72 marks of questions for a 50-mark paper. The choice is generous, but it only helps a student who knows in advance which questions they will leave out. Our mock reviews end with a short decision list for each student, for example "Computer Vision has no long answer, so my four-mark choices come from Units 1, 2, 3 and 6".
Unit 2, Advanced Concepts of Modeling, is the only unit with two long answers and two short ones, which is why it gets the most Monday classes. The blueprint also notes that perceptron questions are asked only in the objective format, so the weighted-sum calculation is drilled as a quick one-mark problem rather than as an essay.
Q4. Which dates matter between now and the paper?
Some dates below are official and already set. Others have not been announced, and we mark them as estimates. Each row shows what the live batch is working on at that point.
| Milestone | Date | Status | In the live batch |
|---|---|---|---|
| LOC submission by schools, regular fee | 24 September to 21 October 2026 | Official | Evaluating Models: confusion matrix, accuracy, precision, recall |
| LOC with late fee | 22 to 30 October 2026 | Official | Practical file programs 8 to 11 on Wednesdays |
| LOC correction window | 2 to 4 November 2026 | Official | Computer Vision and the image programs of the file |
| 417 sample paper for 2026-27 | Not yet posted | Awaited | Solved live in class within days of release |
| 2027 date sheet | Not yet published | Awaited | Natural Language Processing; Part A drills begin |
| School practical assessment | Set by your school within the window CBSE notifies | Varies by school | Practical and viva mocks; project viva rehearsal |
| Main examinations | February to March 2027 | Expected, as in 2026 | Three full theory mocks, each reviewed live |
| Second examination | May 2027 | Expected, as in 2026 | Not needed by students who finish the plan |
The LOC, the list of candidates, is how your school registers your child's subjects with CBSE. Families rarely see it, but it fixes the subject codes your child will be examined in. If your child studies AI, ask the class teacher before the correction window closes on 4 November 2026 to confirm that subject code 417 appears against their name. Fixing a wrong code after that is much harder.
Q5. Which exam rules catch families out?
CBSE's scheme of studies does not allow Artificial Intelligence (417) to be offered together with Computer Applications (165). Students who moved schools mid-way, or whose school offers both, sometimes find the wrong one on their record. Settle it in the LOC window, not in February.
The May sitting lets students improve their performance in up to three of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and the languages. Artificial Intelligence did appear on the May 2026 sheet, but CBSE's notice does not spell out the rules for skill subjects, so ask your school before counting on a second attempt at 417. The safer plan is to treat February as the only chance.
Fifty of the hundred marks are awarded in school, by your child's teacher and an examiner, on the practical file, a practical exam, a project and two vivas. A student who hands in a thin file in January has already lost marks the theory paper cannot recover. Our Wednesday classes keep the file growing a program at a time from the start of the session.
The marking scheme awards value points: named stages of the AI project cycle, the terms precision and recall, the names of the bioethics principles. Answers in everyday language that miss those words lose marks even when the idea is right. Every mock is marked against the scheme so students learn the vocabulary examiners look for.
Q6. How does the live batch prepare for that date?
A calendar only helps if someone keeps to it. In our Class 10 AI batch the teacher does, every week, live on video, with the same students and the same teacher from October to the paper.
A Part B unit is taught for understanding, then practised as the blueprint asks it: objective questions first, then a two-mark answer inside thirty words, then a four-mark case study inside eighty. From November, ten minutes of every Monday go to Part A, so those ten marks are never left until the end.
One program for the practical file is written in Jupyter Notebook, run, explained and documented. The project moves forward in fixed steps across the term, with a short viva rehearsal on each finished piece, so neither the file nor the project is left to a December rush.
Any student can stop the class, share a screen and ask. Doubts from homework open the next class. With two classes a week a doubt never waits longer than a few days, and the teacher sees the same confusion surface in several students and fixes it for the room.
Once CBSE posts the 417 sample paper for the session it is solved live, and then three full fifty-mark mocks follow in January and February, each written under time and reviewed in class. How the series runs is described on the sample paper and mock tests page.
After the diagnostic, after the practical file closes and after each mock, parents get a short progress report: marks by unit, what is improving and what needs home practice. In the board year, nobody should be guessing how their child is doing.

Questions about the AI exam date and pattern
CBSE had not published the 2027 Class 10 date sheet when we checked on 13 October 2026, so there is no official date for the Artificial Intelligence (417) paper yet. Last year the paper was held on Friday 27 February 2026, inside main examinations that ran from 17 February to 11 March. Expect the 2027 paper in the February to March window, and check cbse.gov.in for the circular.
In 2026 the Artificial Intelligence paper ran from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM IST, two hours, in the same morning slot as other skill subjects. The 2027 timing will be confirmed in the date sheet. Because our live classes run at 9 PM, January mock papers are written on weekend mornings so students get used to working at that hour.
The subject is 100 marks: a 50-mark theory paper of two hours and 50 marks of school practical. In the latest official sample paper, students answer 15 of 21 questions: Section A has 24 marks of objective questions, and Section B has 26 marks of short answers of 20 to 30 words and long answers of 50 to 80 words. Part A employability skills carries 10 of the theory marks and five AI units carry 40.
Advanced Concepts of Modeling carries 11 theory marks and Evaluating Models 10, followed by Natural Language Processing 8, Revisiting the AI Project Cycle and Ethical Frameworks 7 and Computer Vision 4. Statistical Data and Advance Python carry no theory marks and are assessed in the practical.
Not when we checked on 13 October 2026. CBSE posted the main-subject sample papers in late September 2026, but the 417 link still opened the 2025-26 paper. The curriculum for 2026-27 is unchanged, so the 2025-26 design is the right one to prepare for, and the new paper is solved live in our classes as soon as it is posted.
No. CBSE does not allow Artificial Intelligence (417) to be offered with Computer Applications (165). If your child studies AI, check with the class teacher that code 417 is on their LOC, the list of candidates the school submits, before the correction window closes on 4 November 2026.
The May examination is for improving performance in up to three of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and the languages. Artificial Intelligence did appear on the May 2026 schedule, but CBSE has not set out the rules for skill subjects clearly, so confirm with your school before relying on it. The safest plan is to prepare for February as the only attempt.
Your school conducts the practical assessment and sets its own dates within the window CBSE notifies in its circulars, so the exact dates come from your school. The practical is worth 50 marks: a 15-program file, a practical exam, a project and two vivas. Our Wednesday classes keep the file and project on schedule so they are ready whenever the school tests them.
Theory units run on Mondays and the practical file and project on Wednesdays, both at 9 PM IST. The target is every theory unit finished before the winter break. The sample paper is solved live once CBSE posts it, and three full timed mocks follow in January and February. Doubts are answered live in every class, and parents get a short progress report at each milestone.
Not if your child joins soon. In October and November the batch can absorb a new student with catch-up help on the units already covered. From December, personalised one to one is usually the better choice, because a private schedule can fit the remaining units, the practical file and the mocks into the weeks left. The first class is a free demo, and the mentor gives you a straight answer.
