CBSE Class 10 · Artificial Intelligence, code 417 · Sample paper and mock tests 2026-27
Downloading the 417 sample paper is easy. Knowing what each question is really asking, how many marks a half-right answer earns, and why your child lost three marks on a question they thought they knew is the part that needs a teacher. In our live batch the official CBSE sample question paper is solved together, then three full mock papers are written under time, marked against the CBSE marking scheme and taken apart question by question, with doubts answered live in every class.

The fastest way to use the CBSE Class 10 AI (417) sample paper for 2026-27 is to solve it twice: first untimed with the marking scheme open, to learn what each question shape rewards, then timed as a full mock. The theory paper is 50 marks, Part A employability skills for 10 and the five theory-bearing AI units for 40; the other 50 marks are the school practical. Modern Age Coders solves the official sample paper live in class, then runs three timed theory mocks marked against the CBSE marking scheme, monthly practical and viva mocks, and live doubt solving in every Monday and Wednesday 9 PM IST class, with a personalised one to one option at the family's own timing.
Q1. What is in the official sample paper?
CBSE releases a sample question paper and a separate marking scheme for every skill subject each session. Most students download the first and never open the second, which is the wrong way round.
The sample question paper (SQP) and its marking scheme are published on CBSE's academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in, under sample question papers for the session, with Artificial Intelligence listed among the Class X skill subjects as code 417. For 2026-27, CBSE posted the main-subject sample papers in the third week of September 2026. As of 13 October 2026, the 417 link on its skill-education sample paper page still opens the 2025-26 paper, and because the 2026-27 curriculum keeps the same units and marks, that paper remains the right one to practise until the new one is posted. We solve the 2026-27 paper in the first Monday class after it appears.
The SQP is the board's own statement of the year's question design: how many questions, which are objective and which are written, where the internal choices sit and how the 50 theory marks are spread. In the latest official paper, for 2025-26, the design is 21 questions of which a student answers 15 in two hours. Section A carries 24 marks of objective questions: any four of six on employability skills, then twenty from the AI units. Section B carries 26 marks of written answers: any three of five two-mark employability answers, any four of six two-mark AI answers of about 20 to 30 words, and any three of five four-mark long answers of about 50 to 80 words. The marking scheme is the other half: it lists the value points an examiner looks for in every written answer, and it is the closest thing a student will ever see to the answer key on the day.
A two-mark answer in 417 is usually marked as two separate value points, a definition and an example, or two features, or one step and its reason. A four-mark case question is marked in parts: identifying the concept, applying it to the scenario, the working, and the judgement in the last line. A student who knows the topic but writes one long paragraph often hits one value point and misses the rest.
That is why our first pass through the sample paper is untimed and open: the teacher reads each question with the marking scheme on screen, the class sees exactly which phrase earned the mark, and only then is the paper attempted again under time. The second attempt is where the habit forms.
When is the 2027 paper? CBSE had not published the 2027 Class 10 date sheet when we last checked on 13 October 2026. In 2026 the main exams ran from 17 February to 11 March, and the AI paper sat on Friday 27 February from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, in the same slot as Computer Applications (165) and Information Technology (402). Plan on the first board exam starting in the second half of February 2027. The exact date, the practical window and the two-exam rules are kept current on the 417 exam date and paper pattern page.
Q2. How does the mock test series run?
Every row below is a paper your child writes, has marked, and gets back in a live review. A mock that is only marked teaches little; a mock in which every lost mark is re-attempted on the spot teaches a great deal.
| Paper | When | Format | What the review produces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic paper | First fortnight after joining | Short mixed paper, one question per theory unit, timed | A marks map per unit, so revision time goes where marks are leaking |
| Unit check tests | End of each theory unit | Fifteen to twenty minutes at the start of a Monday class | The unit's question shapes practised while the unit is fresh |
| Part A drill sheets | Weekly from November | Ten short employability questions, two marks per unit | Ten theory marks secured that most students leave to chance |
| CBSE sample paper, solved live | As soon as CBSE publishes it, usually by December | Untimed, marking scheme on screen, then a timed re-attempt | The year's question design understood from the board's own paper |
| Full theory mock 1 | Early January | Full 50-mark paper under exam time | Every lost mark re-written in the next Monday class |
| Full theory mocks 2 and 3 | Late January to the board paper | Fresh papers in the sample paper's design | A climbing score, which is also the best cure for exam nerves |
| Practical and viva mocks | Monthly from October | An unseen program in Jupyter Notebook, then questions on the file and project | The 50 practical marks rehearsed before the school's assessment |
The order matters as much as the papers. The practical file and the project are closed by the end of December, because the school assesses the practical half before the theory paper and a file finished in January steals revision hours from the heavy theory units. That leaves January and February for the three full mocks, each one followed by a review class. Mock papers are set in the sample paper's design, never copied from it, so a student cannot score well by remembering answers, only by understanding them. The full revision strategy behind the series, unit weights and the countdown, sits on the board exam preparation page.
Q3. What happens in a live paper-solving class?
Paper-solving classes are not lectures with a question paper on screen. Students write; the teacher marks live; the class watches marks being won and lost.
Before anyone writes, the class names the unit, the mark value and the number of value points the answer needs. A three-mark question needs three distinct points; saying that aloud prevents the one-paragraph answer that earns one.
Each student answers on paper or in a shared document under the same time the board allows per mark. Writing to a timer from the first class is what makes a two-hour paper feel ordinary in February.
Two or three answers are shown, with the student's permission, and marked live against the CBSE value points: this phrase earns the definition mark, this example earns the second, this line earns nothing because it repeats the question.
Students rewrite the answer while the reason they lost the mark is still in front of them. That one habit, the re-write, is the difference between a mock that teaches and a mock that only measures.
Any doubt, about the question, the concept or the marking, is answered live before the class moves on. Doubts from home are raised at the start of the next class and taken first, so nobody carries a confusion for a week.
Q4. What does a full-marks answer look like?
Your school canteen throws away a large amount of cooked food every day. Using the 4Ws problem canvas, scope this problem and write a problem statement for an AI project that could help.
The problem is food waste in the canteen. AI can predict how much food to cook so that less food is wasted. This will help the school save money and the environment. # Correct idea, no canvas, no # stakeholders, no problem statement # in the board's template. # Typically one mark out of four.
The student understood the problem and still lost most of the marks, because the question asked for a method, the 4Ws canvas, and a specific output, a problem statement. Neither appears.
Who: canteen staff, students, school
management (stakeholders)
What: cooked food is over-produced and
thrown away daily
Where: school canteen, at lunch service
Why: less waste, lower cost, better
planning of daily quantities
Problem statement
Our canteen staff have a problem of
over-cooking food while planning daily
quantities. An ideal solution would
predict daily demand from attendance,
menu and day of the week, so that less
food is wasted.
Four labelled Ws, then the statement in the board's own template: stakeholders, problem, context, ideal solution. Each part is a value point, so even a weak sentence keeps most of the marks.
Nothing separating the two answers is talent. It is knowing that the question names a method and a product, and that the marking scheme awards marks to each part of both. Unit 1, Revisiting the AI Project Cycle and Ethical Frameworks, carries seven theory marks, and this canvas-plus-statement shape is one of its most reliable questions. In class, students do this drill on three or four fresh scenarios until the four headings appear on their page without being asked for. The same marking logic is applied to the confusion matrix in Evaluating Models and to bag of words in NLP; the unit-by-unit question bank is on the important questions page.
Q5. How are the practical and viva mocked?
Half of the 417 marks are practical: a 15-program file worth 15, a practical exam worth 15, a viva worth 5, a project worth 10 and a project viva worth 5. Each part gets its own mock.
Once a month from October, each student is given a program they have not written before, drawn from the families CBSE suggests for the practical: adding the elements of two lists, mean, median and mode with NumPy, a line chart or a scatter chart with Matplotlib, reading a CSV file and displaying rows or its information with pandas, and reading an image and finding its shape. The student writes and runs it in Jupyter Notebook against a timer, then explains it.
The mock is marked the way a school examiner marks: does it run, is the output right, is the code readable, can the student say what each line does. A program that runs but cannot be explained is treated as half a program, because in the real assessment it often is.
An unfamiliar teacher questions the student on their own file and project, which is closer to the real thing than a friendly rehearsal with the usual teacher. Typical questions:
df.head() show, and what would df.info() add?Students who build their file one program a week across the year rarely fear the viva, because every program in it was written by them, in class, and explained at the time. The week-by-week plan for the file and the project is on the project and practical file page, and the Python itself is taught on Python for Class 10 AI.
Q6. How are doubts handled?
Every class is live video with the teacher, not a recording. A student who is stuck on a question says so and the teacher works it on the shared screen there and then, usually by asking the student to talk through their own attempt first, which shows exactly where the thinking went wrong.
Questions that come up while practising at home are raised at the start of the next Monday or Wednesday class and taken before anything new. With two classes a week, no doubt waits more than a few days, and the rest of the class usually had the same one.
The review class after each full mock is a doubt session by design: every lost mark is a question, and every question gets answered and re-attempted. Students on personalised one to one get their whole session shaped around their own doubts.

Questions about sample papers and mocks
From CBSE's academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in, in the sample question papers section for the 2026-27 session, where Artificial Intelligence appears among the Class X skill subjects as code 417 with its marking scheme alongside. Download both files. The marking scheme shows the value points examiners award marks for, and it is the more useful of the two for revision.
Yes. Once CBSE publishes the 417 sample paper for the session, it is solved live in the Monday class: first untimed with the marking scheme on screen so students see which phrases earn marks, then re-attempted under time as a full mock. Doubts on any question are answered live before moving on.
Three full 50-mark theory mocks under exam time from January to the board paper, plus a diagnostic paper on joining, short unit check tests after each theory unit, weekly Part A drill sheets from November, the official sample paper solved live, and monthly practical and viva mocks from October. Every paper is reviewed in class with lost marks re-written.
No. Mock papers follow the design of the current sample paper, the same sections, question types and mark split, but use fresh questions. A student cannot pass them by remembering answers, which is the point: the board paper will also be fresh.
No. In the latest official sample paper, 24 of the 50 marks are objective questions and 26 are written answers: two-mark short answers and four-mark long answers of about 50 to 80 words, many of them built around a scenario. Students answer 15 of 21 questions in two hours, and our mocks follow the same design.
Yes. From October there is a monthly practical mock in which each student writes an unseen program in Jupyter Notebook, drawn from the program families CBSE suggests, and explains it, followed by a viva on their own file and project, usually conducted by a teacher they have not worked with, which is closer to the real assessment.
Pre-boards are expected in Class 10, so the mock can be written at home in the same week under the same time and is then reviewed in the next class. For a run of missed classes, a one-off catch-up slot is arranged. Classes are live and not sold as recordings.
Yes. CBSE schools outside India follow the same 417 curriculum and paper design, so the sample paper and mocks apply unchanged. The 9 PM IST batch is 7:30 PM in the UAE and Oman and 6:30 PM in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Where the batch falls in school hours or late at night, personalised one to one runs at a time the family chooses.
It is part of the monthly fee, with no separate test-series charge: the Monday and Wednesday group batch or personalised one to one, both billed monthly with no admission fee, and the fee is shown on this page in your own currency. The first class is a free demo.
Usually not. The mock phase runs from January, and the practical file can still be completed in time with catch-up support until about November. After that, personalised one to one is the honest recommendation, because a private schedule can fit the file, the project and the mocks into the weeks left. The free demo tells you what is realistic.
