In short
Competitions appear in the twelve-month track as forcing functions rather than as trophies. A fixed external submission date is the only constraint we have found that reliably gets a student project finished, documented and published rather than endlessly improved, and it also forces the least popular part of the work, which is writing it up. We prepare students for open-entry competitions whose timing and subject fit their current project. We make no promise about selection or results, because for school-age students entry frequently runs through the school and judging is not ours to influence.
The real reason we use them
We use competitions as forcing functions rather than trophy hunts, and it is worth explaining that honestly before anything else, because it changes what you should expect from this.
Here is the pattern we have watched dozens of times. A student picks a project in week one. By week four it is going well. By week six they have thought of something that would make it better, and by week nine they have thought of three more things. Nothing has been finished, nothing has been published, and the student is not lazy or unable. They simply have no reason to stop, and a project with no reason to stop never does.
A fixed external date fixes that, and almost nothing else does. Not a teacher saying it should be done by Friday, because a teacher can be negotiated with. Not the end of term, because term ends are soft. A submission deadline set by somebody who has never heard of the student is the only kind of constraint that reliably converts work into a finished thing.
That is the whole of why competitions appear in this programme. The medal is not the point and we would be selling you something dishonest if we implied it was. The point is that four times a year a student has an immovable date, and consequently four times a year they finish something instead of improving something.
There is a second effect worth naming. A deadline forces the least popular part of the work, which is writing it up. Nobody voluntarily writes a README, states an error figure or admits a limitation while there is still code they could be improving. A submission date makes the documentation the last thing standing between them and being done, and it gets written.
The landscape, described honestly
These are categories rather than a list of events, and that is deliberate: specific competitions open, close, change their rules and change their eligibility, so a page naming them would be wrong within a year.

The rows are in rough order of how much they reward the thing this programme actually builds. Timed algorithmic contests are excellent training and reward a fairly narrow skill quickly. Project competitions reward exactly what a twelve-month track produces, which is a finished, documented, measured piece of work. If your child is going to enter one thing, the project category is usually where a student from this programme is strongest.
Being precise about this
We keep an eye on open-entry competitions whose timing and subject suit a student's current project, we tell the family the date, we reorganise the quarter around it, and we make sure the submission is complete and honest rather than rushed. For older students we also teach the specific skills timed contests reward, which are not the same as the skills a project rewards.
That we can get anybody selected. For school-age students, entry to many competitions runs through the school rather than through a private provider, and selection is decided by people we have no relationship with.
That results are predictable. They are not, and any provider quoting you a success rate on competitions is describing luck as a service.
That a specific Bahamian competition exists for your child's age and subject. We would have to check, it changes, and your school will know better than we do.
That winning matters more than finishing. It does not, and treating it as though it does is how students end up with one polished entry and no portfolio.
Preparation
This is the sequence we run when a student has an entry date, and it is roughly the opposite of what most people do, which is to build until the last night and write up in a panic.
The student writes down exactly what the entry will do, and then what it will NOT do. Everything in the second list is genuinely allowed to be a good idea; it is simply not happening before the date. This conversation is where the entry is actually won or lost.
Not on the student's machine with the student present. Deployed, or at minimum runnable from clean instructions. This always takes longer than expected and it is the reason it happens now rather than the night before.
The error stated in a real unit, and what a trivial alternative would have scored. If the model does not beat the baseline, this is the week to find that out, and finding it out is a result rather than a failure.
The README, the method, the limitation paragraph. Written by the student, reviewed hard by the teacher. Most entries are separated at this step, because most entrants treat it as packaging rather than as part of the work.
No new features in the final week, deliberately. The student submits with days to spare, which removes the entire category of disasters that happen at midnight, and spends the remaining time being able to explain their own project out loud.
The honest accounting
Most entrants in any competition do not win, so a programme that only pays off on a win is a bad programme.
Whatever the judges decide, the student now has something running, documented and published. That goes in the portfolio and stays useful for years, long after the result is forgotten by everybody including them.
Being assessed by somebody with no relationship to you is genuinely different from being assessed by a teacher, and the first time is a shock. Better to meet it at fourteen on a project than at twenty-two in an interview.
Scope control is the rarest skill in student software and the most valuable. A deadline teaches it in a way no amount of advice does, because the alternative is submitting nothing.
A student who has entered something can describe a decision they made under constraint, which is the single most useful thing to be able to do in an interview or an application conversation.
Seeing what other students at the same age produced is informative in both directions, and it is information a learner cannot get from inside a single classroom or a single island.
This is the quiet one. Nobody writes documentation voluntarily. A deadline makes it the last obstacle to being finished, and the habit tends to survive afterwards.
Which is why the deliverable we care about is the repository rather than the result. Four finished entries in a year is four documented projects in a public portfolio, whatever the judges decided. The site-wide competitive route for students who want that specifically is the coding olympiad track, and the year this all sits inside is the twelve-month track.
A closing point for parents who are unsure whether their child is competitive by temperament. Many are not, and it changes nothing about whether this is useful to them. The argument of this page never depended on a child enjoying comparison; it depended on a date existing. A student who dislikes competition can be entered into nothing at all and still get the whole benefit, provided somebody sets a real deadline and holds it. We do that inside the track regardless. Competitions are simply the most convenient source of a date we did not invent, and a date we did not invent is harder to argue with than one we did.

Questions about competitions
That depends on their age, their current project and what is actually open at the time, and we are deliberately not going to print a list here because specific competitions change their dates, rules and eligibility from year to year. What we do is watch for open-entry events whose timing and subject fit, tell you the date, and reorganise the quarter around it. Your school will often know about routes we do not.

For school-age students, entry to many competitions runs through the school rather than through a private provider, and judging is done by people we have no relationship with. What we can promise is preparation and a complete, honest, finished entry submitted on time.
A group batch of five to eight students is USD 100 a month and one to one teaching is USD 150 a month, billed in US dollars, the same flat figures everywhere outside India. Competition preparation is part of the track rather than an extra, so there is no separate charge. The first class is free without a card.
For timed algorithmic contests, usually until about thirteen. For project and science-fair style entries, considerably younger, because those reward a clear question and an honest method rather than speed. What we would avoid is entering an eight year old into anything with a leaderboard, which teaches the wrong lesson at the wrong age.
They will still have a finished, documented, published project, which was the actual objective. We are quite deliberate about this framing from the first session, because a student who has been told the medal is the point and does not get one concludes something untrue about themselves. A student who was told the deadline is the point simply has a finished project and a result they did not like.
In the five weeks before a deadline it takes more focus, yes, and that is exactly why we do not schedule an entry into an examination term. Where those collide, the examination wins and the competition is skipped. That advice is set out properly on the BJC and BGCSE page, and we give it even when it means a quieter quarter.
Both, depending on the event, and team entries are genuinely valuable for a different reason: dividing work and then integrating it is a skill no solo project teaches. Within a batch we sometimes pair students at similar levels for an entry, which also means two people have to agree on a scope, which is instructive.
There may well be, and we would rather say we would need to check than assert something that turns out to be out of date. National and school-level events exist across the region and change year to year; your child's school is the better source. What we bring is the preparation and the finished entry, which travels to whichever event is open.
Overlapping and not identical. Timed contests reward speed and precision on well-defined problems, which needs deliberate practice at data structures and algorithms. The track teaches building and evaluating systems, which is a different skill. Students who want the contest side specifically should say so early, because the preparation is genuinely different.
