Good Roblox classes teach **real Luau programming inside Roblox Studio**, variables, events, functions, loops, not just terrain painting and free models. They turn the obsession into a skill: the child designs, scripts, tests and ships actual playable games. That is what we do: 8 live one-hour classes a month with a dedicated mentor, 1-on-1 for $100 a month or small group for $40, free demo class first. Independent classes, not affiliated with Roblox Corporation.

The obsession, redirected

## The hours are being spent either way. The question is which side of the screen.

Parents rarely need convincing that their child loves Roblox; the battle is usually about how much. Here is the reframe that changes the conversation: Roblox is not just a game, it is **the largest game-creation platform on earth**, and every experience your child plays was built by someone in Roblox Studio, a free, professional-grade tool, scripted in Luau, a real programming language descended from Lua, which is used across the games industry.

A child who crosses from player to builder gets something remarkable: the strongest motivation engine in their life pointed at real programming. Variables stop being abstract when they hold a coin count. Functions matter when they open your game's door. Debugging is suddenly worth it when it is *your* obby that is broken.

The catch is the same as everywhere in kids' coding: most "Roblox classes" are recipe-following, paste this script, drag that model, and most self-taught kids assemble games from free models without understanding a line. The result looks like progress and teaches almost nothing.

Our mentors teach the programming underneath, live, with your child's hands on the keyboard. Scripts are written, not pasted; every line gets a "what do you think this does?" before it runs. And because our school teaches coding from ages 6 to 18, Roblox is a road here too: Luau's variables, loops and functions transfer directly to Python and beyond when your child is ready. Roblox is a trademark of Roblox Corporation; our classes are independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Roblox.

Player to builder

## What your child actually learns, mapped honestly.

| Layer | What it is | What it teaches |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Roblox Studio | The free professional editor: parts, terrain, models, properties, the Explorer tree | 3D thinking, structure and hierarchy, the discipline of building worlds deliberately |
| Luau scripting | A real programming language (typed Lua dialect) that powers every Roblox experience | Variables, events, functions, conditionals, loops, tables: genuine programming, keyboard-first |
| Game design | Rules, difficulty curves, player feedback, fairness | Systems thinking and empathy for the player, the difference between a build and a game |
| Shipping | Publishing an experience, testing with friends, iterating on feedback | The full maker loop: plan, build, test, improve, present, the habit that outlasts any platform |
| The economy (honestly) | Robux, monetization and the developer marketplace exist and are real | We teach the literacy without the hype: a handful of teens earn meaningfully; the durable payoff is the skill, not the payout |

Ages 9-14 is the sweet spot: old enough to type and reason about scripts, young enough that the motivation engine is at full power. Younger children start better on our [Scratch track](/scratch-coding-classes-for-kids) and arrive here ready.

Is this your child?

## Eight signs Roblox classes will land right now.

### Hours in Roblox already

The motivation problem every other class fights is already solved. We just move the child to the maker's side of it.

### Opened Studio, got lost

Most kids try Roblox Studio alone, drown in the interface, and retreat. A mentor turns that wall into a door in one class.

### Builds obbies from free models

Assembly without understanding. Real scripting is the difference between decorating a game and creating one.

### Watches dev YouTubers

Following along with build videos means the appetite exists; a mentor converts appetite into ability.

### Asks about making money on Roblox

Good instinct, needs honest guidance. We teach the economy as literacy, and keep the focus on the skill that lasts.

### Age 9-14 and screen-time battles

The peace treaty that works: same screen, opposite side. Parents report the shift in one month.

### Friends play their creations

Nothing on earth motivates a young builder like a friend inside their game. We help them ship to that moment fast.

### Scratch graduate, hungry for more

Luau is a perfect second language: real text code with the world's most motivating output attached.

Watch the method work

## Seven lines of Luau, and the door obeys your child.

From a real early lesson · the touch-activated doorlocal door = script.Parentlocal function openDoor(otherPart) door.Transparency = 0.8 door.CanCollide = falseenddoor.Touched:Connect(openDoor)

**What the child sees:** they walk their avatar into a solid door, and it turns to glass and lets them through. Their code did that.

**What the child just used:** a *variable* holding an object, a *function* they defined, *properties* they changed with code, and an *event* connecting the physical world to their logic. Four foundation ideas, seven lines, week two.

The mentor's questions do the teaching: "why 0.8 and not 0?" "what happens if we skip CanCollide?" "how would we close it again after three seconds?" That last one leads straight to task scheduling, and the child asks for it themselves, because it is their door. Motivation this strong cannot be manufactured; it can only be pointed in the right direction.

## Real scripts, written not pasted, in a safe lane.

### Keyboard-first Luau

Scripts are typed and explained line by line. Free models and pasted code are allowed only after the child can explain what they do.

### One game, built deep

Each term centers on one real project, an obby, a tycoon, an adventure, taken from empty baseplate to published experience.

### Design taught alongside code

Difficulty curves, checkpoints, player feedback: the craft that separates a build from a game people actually play.

### Studio, not the social platform

Classes happen in Roblox Studio, the development tool, not in public servers. No strangers, no chat rooms, just the mentor and the build.

### Parent-side safety brief

We walk parents through Roblox's account controls, chat settings and spending locks once at the start, so home play is set up sanely too.

### Economy honesty

Robux and monetization are taught as literacy, with honest odds. The durable payoff we aim at is the programming skill, not the payout.

One more, further down the road

## The leaderboard: where variables grow up.

Month 4-6 · real game systemslocal Players = game:GetService("Players")Players.PlayerAdded:Connect(function(player) local stats = Instance.new("Folder", player) stats.Name = "leaderstats" local coins = Instance.new("IntValue", stats) coins.Name = "Coins" coins.Value = 0end)

**What the child sees:** every player who joins their game now has a live coin counter on the leaderboard, the feature every "real" Roblox game has.

Underneath, the child is now handling *services*, *player events*, *object creation at runtime* and *data structure*, the same concepts a professional games programmer uses daily, arrived at because their tycoon needed coins. From here the road runs to touch-collected pickups, saving data between sessions, and multi-script architectures. And when this child later meets Python or JavaScript, they will recognize everything: objects, events, functions, state. The costume changes; the ideas are already theirs.

The learning path

## From player to published builder, mapped.

### Class 1 · The free demo

Your child scripts something real in Studio inside the first hour, and the mentor reads typing comfort, logic instincts and spark.

### Months 1-2 · Studio fluency + first scripts

The editor mastered, parts and properties, then Luau begins: variables, functions and events through doors, traps and pickups.

### Months 3-5 · The first real game

An obby or adventure taken from baseplate to published: checkpoints, hazards, win states, and the design craft that makes it fun.

### Months 6-9 · Systems thinking

Leaderboards, currencies, shops, saving data: multi-script projects where the child architects, not just scripts.

### Months 10+ · The builder's fork

Deeper Roblox (a tycoon or simulator of their own design) or the bridge to Python and general programming, same mentor, child's choice, honest advice.

Inside the hour

## What one full hour of Roblox class looks like.

Every class is a full 60 minutes, live and interactive, in Roblox Studio with the mentor watching your child's screen:

### 0-10 min · Playtest and plan

The child demos progress, the mentor plays it, and together they pick today's build target.

### 10-35 min · New scripting idea

Today's concept typed into the project line by line, with the child predicting what each line does before it runs.

### 35-50 min · Build and break

The child extends it their way; bugs become the best teaching moments of the hour.

### 50-60 min · Explain-back and quest

The child teaches the script back, and leaves with a build quest they genuinely want to finish before next class.

Parents tell us this is the one class their child is never late for. Watch one before believing us: the demo is free. [See exactly how we teach →](/how-we-teach)

The honest part

## Who this genuinely fits, and who it does not.

### A strong fit if…

• Your child is 9-14 and already deep in Roblox, and you want those hours pointed at building instead of only playing.

• Your child opened Roblox Studio alone, got lost or leaned on free models, and needs a guide who teaches the scripting underneath.

• You want one mentor who knows your child by name, not a rotating cast or a video library with a mascot.

• You care about the ten-year road: Luau now, Python later, with the bridge crossed on purpose.

### Honestly not the fit if…

• Your child cannot yet engage with a screen and a teacher for a full hour. By age 9 nearly every child can, provided the hour is genuinely interactive, and ours are.

• You want projects built *for* the child so the portfolio looks good. Our mentors ask questions and coach; the child does the building, which is slower in week one and the whole point by month three.

• You want a promise that your child will earn Robux riches. We teach the economy honestly as literacy; the durable payoff is the skill, and we say so upfront.

Who teaches your child

## Mentors who teach the why, in classes kids wait for.

Our mentors are trained in one method: ideas before recipes, the child's hands on the keyboard, and the child talking more than the teacher. They teach both coding and mathematics, which matters more than it sounds, because a mentor who can turn a coin counter into number sense and a jump-pad into physics intuition is teaching two subjects in one absorbing hour.

And because the same mentor stays with your child month after month, teaching compounds: they know which ideas landed, which need another costume, and exactly when your child is ready for the next stretch.

Parent questions

## Everything parents ask about Roblox classes.

What age is right for Roblox coding classes?

Ages 9-14 is the sweet spot: old enough to type and reason about scripts, young enough that the motivation engine is at maximum. Ages 6-8 usually thrive on our Scratch track first and arrive in Studio ready. The free demo doubles as a placement either way.

Is Roblox scripting real programming?

Genuinely, yes. Roblox experiences are scripted in Luau, a typed dialect of Lua, a language family used across the professional games industry. Your child writes variables, functions, events, conditionals and loops in real text code. The concepts transfer directly to Python, JavaScript and beyond.

Is it safe? Roblox has a reputation.

Two different things get mixed up here. The public Roblox platform has the risks any social game has, which is why we brief parents on account controls, chat settings and spending locks at the start. Our classes happen in Roblox Studio, the development tool: no public servers, no strangers, just your child, the mentor and the build.

My child just plays Roblox all day. Will this reduce screen time?

It changes what the screen time is, which parents tell us matters more. Building is active, effortful and creative where playing is consumptive, and most children voluntarily trade play hours for build hours once their own game exists. The battles tend to soften within a month.

Can my child really make money on Roblox?

We answer this honestly because the hype does not. A small number of teen developers earn real money; the overwhelming majority do not, and chasing Robux is the wrong reason to learn. We teach the economy as literacy, how monetization works, what the marketplace rewards, while aiming at the payoff that is guaranteed: a child who can actually program.

Does my child need to be good at Roblox to start?

No. Playing skill and building skill are unrelated; we have taught brilliant builders who are mediocre at obbies. Curiosity about how games work is the only prerequisite that matters.

Free models and AI tools can build games now. Why learn scripting?

Because assembly without understanding hits a ceiling fast: the moment your child wants the door to behave differently, they need the code. We let children use models and modern tools the way professionals do, on top of understanding, never instead of it. That is also our house rule for pasted scripts.

What does it cost?

1-on-1 is $100 a month and small group is $40 a month, both with 8 live one-hour classes (2 per week) and recordings included. No registration fee, no contract. US kids-coding programs typically run $175 to $350 a month for less contact time.

What equipment does my child need?

A computer (Windows or Mac) that runs Roblox Studio, which is free, plus stable internet and a mouse. Studio does not run on tablets or phones, which is honestly part of its value: it moves your child from consumption hardware to creation hardware.

Is this affiliated with Roblox Corporation?

No. Roblox and Roblox Studio are trademarks of Roblox Corporation; we are an independent school that teaches programming using their free tools, and we say so plainly.

Can we try before paying anything?

Yes. Every child starts with a free live demo class that doubles as the placement, they will script something real in Studio inside that hour, and nobody asks for a card. The promise is written on our guarantee page.
