In short

The twelve-month Python and AI track is a live online programme of weekly ninety-minute sessions for learners in the Bahamas aged six to sixty-seven, organised into four quarters. Each quarter ends in a finished project running at a public address, with the code readable on GitHub. Underneath it sit four things a camp cannot offer: the same teacher for twelve months, an individual written progress record, competitions used as external deadlines, and a monthly written update to the parent. Group teaching is USD 100 a month, private teaching USD 150, and the first class is free.

The year, quarter by quarter

## Twelve months, four milestones, and something running at the end of each

This is the plan for a student starting at around twelve with no code. A younger child moves more slowly through the first quarter and a teenager with some Python compresses it, but the shape holds.

Notice that every quarter ends in a thing rather than a topic. That is deliberate and it is the main structural difference between this and a syllabus: a student who has finished four things in a year has four pieces of evidence, and a student who has covered four topics has none.

The five promises

## What you are actually buying, stated so you can hold us to it

A twelve-month commitment deserves specifics rather than adjectives. Each of these is a thing that either happens or does not, and you will be able to tell which.

1. #### Individual progress tracking, not class progress

  A record per student: which concepts are solid, which were shaky last month, what the next session is for. It exists so that a teacher returning after a holiday does not restart from a guess, and so that a parent asking how is it going gets an answer with specifics in it rather than a reassurance.
2. #### Real projects, chosen by the student

  Every quarter ends in something that runs. The subject is the student's, with one rule imposed: they must be able to check the answer themselves. That single constraint is the strongest predictor we know of a project being finished rather than quietly abandoned in week four.
3. #### Competitions used as deadlines

  Not for the medal. A fixed external date is the only thing we have found that reliably finishes student work, because a project with no deadline expands until it dies. We aim work at open-entry competitions where they fit, and we make no promise whatsoever about selection or results, which are not ours to give.
4. #### A public GitHub portfolio, built weekly

  Commits from the first weeks rather than an upload at the end. The point is the history: a repository showing twelve months of dated work says something a certificate cannot, and for a Bahamian student applying abroad it is the asset that crosses water without losing anything in transit.
5. #### A written update to the parent every month

  A few hundred words in plain English: what was covered, what your child found difficult, what they built, and what we would like them to do next. No dashboard to log into, no score out of ten, and no automated summary. If a month went badly the note says so.

There is a sixth thing that is not a promise so much as a consequence: the same teacher for the whole year. That is what makes the other five possible. A record is only useful if somebody reads it, and a project only survives a bad month if somebody remembers what it was for.

What the milestones look like in practice

## Four things, each smaller than you would expect

Parents reading a quarter plan usually imagine something more ambitious than what we actually aim at, so it is worth being concrete. Small and finished beats large and abandoned every time, and the negotiation down is often the most useful conversation of the quarter.

**Quarter one** tends to produce a small program with one clear job: a calculator for something the student cares about, a game with rules they invented, a tool that renames a folder full of files. Nothing that would impress a stranger, and everything that proves a blank file is no longer frightening.

**Quarter two** produces a chart and a paragraph. The student has taken a messy file, usually one they built by recording something themselves, cleaned it, plotted it and written down what they think it shows. The paragraph is harder than the chart and matters more.

**Quarter three** produces a model with a number attached: this predicts the thing, it is wrong by about this much, and here is what you would have got by not modelling at all. That last clause is the whole quarter, and it is the part almost no school-age project includes.

**Quarter four** produces a link. Something running where a stranger can open it, with the code readable, the commit history intact across the year, and an honest paragraph on where it fails. A linear model a fourteen year old wrote, documented like that, is worth more to a reader than something clever with nothing behind it.

The honest parts

## What this is not, and when you should not buy it

**It is not a school qualification.** Nothing here appears on a BJC or a BGCSE, and we will not imply otherwise. Where it sits against those examinations, including the years when you should reduce or pause, is set out on [its own page](/coding-and-ai-alongside-bjc-and-bgcse-bahamas).

**It is not a guarantee of anything downstream.** We cannot promise a university place, a competition result or a job, and any provider who does is selling something they do not control. What we can promise is the five items above.

**Do not buy it if the schedule will not survive.** The track assumes roughly weekly sessions across twelve months. A family who knows in advance that half of that will be missed is better served by one to one, where the pace bends, and that is a genuine recommendation rather than a redirect.

**Do not buy it for a child under six**, and be cautious under eight if the only free slot is a Saturday morning after a busy school week. Ninety minutes of concentration is a real ask. We would rather you started a year later than have a child decide at seven that this subject is tiring.

### If the blocker is mathematics

It sometimes is, and struggling on is the wrong answer. We teach mathematics as its own subject at every level, and a term spent on the actual gap beats a year of stalling at the same wall.

### If the student is already ahead

A last word on what a year is for. Most educational purchases are bought on what they cover, and a syllabus is easy to compare. The thing that actually separates two students at the end of twelve months is not coverage but whether anybody was still watching in month eight, when the novelty has gone and the project is at the difficult stage and nothing is working. That is the point at which a short course has already ended and a rota of instructors has nobody who remembers what was promised in month two. Continuity is not a premium feature attached to this programme. It is the only part of it that cannot be bought in any other format.

Questions about the track

## What families ask before committing to a year

### Do we have to pay for twelve months up front?

No, and we would rather you did not think of it that way. Fees are charged monthly and you can stop at the end of any month with nothing owing. The track is designed as a year because that is how long the useful version takes, not because we want a year of your money locked in. A programme that has to trap people is not one worth committing to.

### What if my child falls behind the quarter plan?

Then the plan moves, because the plan is a route rather than a schedule to be enforced. The quarters above describe a student starting at around twelve with no code; a nine year old goes considerably slower through the first one and that is expected rather than a problem. The individual progress record exists precisely so that pace is tracked per student instead of per cohort.

### How much does it cost?

A group batch of five to eight students is USD 100 a month and one to one teaching is USD 150 a month, billed in US dollars, the same flat figures everywhere outside India. There is no enrolment fee, no annual contract, and the first class is free without a card.

### What exactly is in the monthly parent update?

A few hundred words of plain English written by the teacher: what was covered, what your child found difficult, what they built, and what would help before the next session. No dashboard, no percentage, no automated summary. If a month went badly it says that, because a report that is always positive tells you nothing.

### Which competitions do you enter students into?

We aim work at open-entry competitions where the timing and subject fit, and we are careful about what we claim here: entry routes for school students frequently run through the school rather than through a private provider, and selection is never ours to promise. The value we are actually selling is the deadline, which is the thing that gets a project finished. That argument is set out on its own page.

### Can a student join mid-year?

Yes, and most do. The four quarters are a route rather than a cohort, so a learner starts at whichever stage the free first class puts them at and works forward from there. Nobody waits for a January intake, and nobody is dropped into the middle of a group at the wrong level to fill a seat.

### What if we go away for the summer?

Pause it. There is no minimum term and no penalty, and a month paused costs you that month and nothing else. What we would say honestly is that long gaps are the main enemy of a twelve-month programme, so if the summer is going to be six weeks away, a single session mid-break to keep the project alive is worth more than it sounds.

### Is this suitable for a complete beginner?

It is written for one. Quarter one assumes no code at all and starts at a blank file. The only thing that changes for a student who arrives with some Python is that quarter one compresses and the modelling work starts sooner, which the free first class exists to establish.

### Does the student need to buy any software?

No. Python, the libraries, Git and GitHub are all free, and deployment for a student project is normally free too. The one exception in our whole catalogue is the coding agents course, where the student needs their own subscription to the tools that course works with, and that is stated on the course page rather than buried in the small print.

### What happens after we send the form?

A mentor telephones you at a Bahamian hour to arrange the free session. Nothing is charged and no card is requested. Sending the form opens a conversation rather than an enrolment and holds no place in any batch. Which quarter the learner starts in, the format and the weekend slot are all settled on that call before money is discussed.

## One task, and the honest starting quarter

The free first session decides where in the year a learner actually begins, which is the only question that matters before committing to twelve months. A student attempts one problem chosen for their age while the teacher reads how they approach it. Sometimes the answer is a quarter later than a parent expected and sometimes considerably earlier, and both are more useful than a guess.
