Why maths feels closed off to adults

## You were probably never bad at maths. You were rushed past the part that would have made it click.

School maths moves on a timetable. If percentages or algebra went by too fast one year, the topic was ticked off and you were expected to keep up. The gap never closed — it just got papered over, and "I'm not a maths person" became a story you told yourself for years.

Then life in the UAE hands you a reason to need it: a promotion into a data-heavy role, an MBA that demands a GMAT score, a finance or analytics responsibility, or simply wanting to help your children with their schoolwork.

The good news is that adults are excellent maths learners. You bring context, patience and a clear reason — three things a distracted teenager doesn't. What you need isn't a classroom; it's someone to fill the specific gaps and explain the parts that were never explained.

That's the whole job here. One mentor, your goal, and the freedom to ask "wait, why does that work?" as many times as it takes.

How we teach

## Built around your goal, not a generic syllabus.

Adults don't need to relearn everything — only the pieces that matter for what you're trying to do.

### Start with your why

A work skill, the GMAT/GRE, or simple confidence — we shape the whole plan around the outcome you actually want.

### Find and fill the real gaps

We work out which earlier ideas are missing and rebuild just those, so we never waste your limited time on what you already know.

### Teach the meaning, not the memory trick

You'll understand why a method works, which is what lets you use it confidently at work or under exam pressure — and remember it long after.

### Apply it to your real situations

We practise on the kind of problems your goal involves, from dashboards to test questions, so the skill transfers immediately.

See it for yourself

## Compound interest — why money grows faster than you expect.

Worked example · financial maths

**Where adults get caught:** people assume interest adds up in a straight line — "5% a year for 10 years is 50%". That's *simple* interest, and it quietly undersells what actually happens with savings, loans and investments.

**How we do it.** With compound interest, each year's growth is calculated on the new, larger balance — so you earn interest on your interest. Each year you multiply by 1.05, and doing that ten times means 1.05 to the power of 10:

simple interest: 5% × 10 years = +50% → AED 10,000 becomes AED 15,000compound: 10,000 × 1.05¹⁰ = 10,000 × 1.629 = **AED 16,289**the extra AED 1,289 is "interest on interest"

That gap looks small over ten years and becomes enormous over thirty — which is exactly why compound interest matters for savings and is dangerous on debt. Once an adult understands that compounding is repeated multiplication, not repeated addition, financial decisions stop being intimidating and start being something you can actually calculate. This is the kind of practical, reasoned maths we build — and the foundation under work statistics and the GMAT/GRE quant.

Why a coding school teaches maths

## The same clear thinking runs through maths, money and modern work.

### Break it down

A daunting spreadsheet or a daunting problem both get simple once split into steps. Decomposition transfers everywhere.

### Reason from rules

Understanding why a formula works — in a model or on a test — is the same logic that lets a programmer trust their code.

### Sanity-check the answer

"Does that number make sense?" catches errors at work and in exams alike. We make it a habit.

We're Modern Age Coders, and we teach adults to code as well as to compute. The reasoning is identical — which is why many of our UAE adult maths learners find that data, spreadsheets and even a little programming stop feeling out of reach, exactly the skills this economy rewards.

What we cover

## Whatever your goal actually needs.

We don't make you sit through topics you'll never use. We focus on yours.

### Foundations refresher

Arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and the algebra basics — rebuilt cleanly so everything above them holds.

### Statistics for work

Averages, spread, probability, reading charts, and what a result actually means — the data literacy nearly every UAE role now expects.

### Financial maths

Interest, loans, budgets, markups, margins and ROI — the everyday money maths that pays for itself the first time you use it.

### GMAT & GRE quantitative

The fundamentals rebuilt, then the specific question types, pacing and traps — essential for an MBA or graduate place.

### Career & study requirements

Maths for a professional qualification, a university course, or a role that's suddenly become numerical.

### Plain confidence

For some adults the goal is simply to stop freezing around numbers. That's a real, achievable goal, and a good one.

Who this is for

## The right fit — and an honest word on what to expect.

**This fits** the UAE professional whose role now involves data, the MBA candidate facing the GMAT, the career-changer, the parent who wants to help their kids without freezing up, and anyone who's ever said "I'm just bad at maths". This is built for you.

**What's realistic.** Confidence usually comes quickly — within a few sessions of gaps being named and filled. Concrete goals like a GMAT score take a few months of steady work, and we'll give you an honest timeline rather than a sales pitch.

### What we won't do

- Make you feel behind or talked down to.
- Teach memory tricks with no understanding.
- Waste your limited time on topics you don't need.
- Promise an exam score we can't honestly support.

Who teaches you

## Mentors chosen for patience first.

Teaching an adult who's anxious about maths takes a particular kind of teacher — one who never sighs, never rushes, and genuinely believes you can do this. We hire for exactly that, then check it. A mentor who makes a learner feel small doesn't last here.

You keep the same mentor, who learns your goal and your pace and adjusts as life changes. That relationship is what turns "I'm bad at maths" into "actually, I get this now".

"I needed a GMAT quant score for an MBA in Dubai and hadn't done maths since school. My mentor rebuilt the fundamentals patiently — I went from dreading the quant to scoring well above my target."

— Marketing manager, Dubai

Common questions

## Everything you might be wondering.

I haven't done maths in years. Is it too late?

Not at all. Adults often learn faster than they expect. We start wherever you are and never make you feel behind.

What can you help adults with?

Rebuilding the basics; the practical maths of work (statistics, data, financial maths); and GMAT/GRE quant for MBA and graduate study.

Can you prepare me for the GMAT or GRE quant section?

Yes — fundamentals first, then the question types, pacing and traps. Solid fundamentals move a quant score.

I have maths anxiety. Will this be uncomfortable?

The one-to-one setting helps — no audience, no being put on the spot. Most people relax within a couple of sessions.

How much does it cost?

USD 100/month (about AED 370) for 1:1 — eight live sessions, two a week. Small-group option USD 40/month. No contract.

Is the first class free?

Yes — no card needed.

When can I take classes? I work full time.

Early-morning, evening and weekend slots in Gulf Standard Time (UTC+4).

Will I have the same teacher each time?

Yes — one mentor who learns your goal and pace.

## Book a free maths trial class.
