Being the seat is why the name appears on records that are about the town and on records that are about a far larger area. ### Settled around water Permanent settlement began after oil explorers sank a water well here, and that well together with another at al-Ajaiz became the first permanent water sources in Jiddat il-Harasiis. A place with a documented founding is a place whose records start at a known point. ### Desert on all sides Haima has a hot desert climate with brief mild winters and long hot summers. The area the name has to cover is enormous and almost entirely empty, which is exactly why the town figure and the wilayat figure diverge. Two correct answers to one question that was never finished Neither number is an error and neither source is careless. The question how many people live in Haima simply has two readings, and a figure sitting in a cell carries no memory of which one it answered. Verified local facts ## Haima facts with a trail behind them Each claim traced, with the boundary it applies to named. ### Capital of Al Wusta Haima is the capital of the Al Wusta Governorate, which itself consists of the four wilayats of Haima, Mahout, Duqm and Al Jazer. The governorate, the wilayat and the town are three nested things and two of them share a name. ### Two figures from one census The 2020 census gives the town 7,814 people. A population database gives the wilayat 10,093 for the same census. Both are published and this page uses both, each labelled with what it counts. ### Founded on a well Permanent settlement began after oil explorers sank a water well at Haima. A settlement with a cause has a start date, and start dates are the boundary conditions of any series about it. ### The first water in the Jiddat That well and another at al-Ajaiz became the first permanent water sources in Jiddat il-Harasiis. Two wells named separately is a reminder that the surrounding area has its own identity distinct from the town. ### On the road between the ends of the country Haima sits centrally on the Muscat Salalah main road. Position on a route is why a place this size has a governorate seat at all. ### Hot desert, by classification The climate is hot desert with brief, pleasant, dry winters and long hot summers. A classification describes a regime rather than a reading, and the two should not share a column. Modern Age Coders has no association with the wells, the road or the governorate administration and claims none. Haima is used here because a seat that shares its name with its wilayat is the most ordinary way a single figure comes to mean two things. Signature project ## The same one hundred and forty cases, at 13.9 or 17.9 per thousand Nothing is wrong with either population figure. The error is made in the moment somebody puts one of them under a line. ### 1. Write down both published populations Seven thousand eight hundred and fourteen for the town. Ten thousand and ninety three for the wilayat. Both from the 2020 census, both correct, differing by 2,279 people or 29 per cent of the smaller. ### 2. Build a rate the ordinary way Take a count of something across the wilayat and divide by the population of Haima. Both halves are sourced, both are recent, and the phrase population of Haima is exactly as specific as anybody ever writes it. The case count used here is illustrative and the page says so. ### 3. Do it the other way and compare The same 140 cases come out at 13.9 per thousand on the wilayat population and 17.9 on the town. Each is a real figure from a real census. The fault is in the join between them, and a citation on each half is precisely what stops anybody looking at the join. Every figure above was computed before this was written. The child is asked how many are in Haima. Discovering the question has two answers takes about a minute and needs nothing electronic. ### For teenagers Both populations in Python with the boundary stored as a field, computing the rate both ways and printing the basis beside each. The learner writes the check that refuses to divide when the two halves carry different boundary labels. ### For adults Units are named in column headers, every rate asserts that its halves share a boundary and a period, and where two official figures exist for one name both are published rather than one being chosen quietly. The governorate seat, the four wilayats of Al Wusta, the founding wells at Haima and al-Ajaiz, the position on the Muscat Salalah main road and the hot desert climate are published, as are both population figures, 7,814 for the town and 10,093 for the wilayat. A lesson that arrives over a connection is unaffected by either. ### The trial class is free and complete A real lesson with a genuine task, closing with a clear recommendation. No card details are collected to arrange it and nothing is agreed before a teacher has been seen working. ### Five to eight in a group, chosen by level Cohorts form on what a learner can already do and what they want next. Which settlement in the governorate they live in plays no part. ### One to one where the aim is narrow A single teacher and a single learner, for a fixed examination or one specific gap that a shared plan would only be able to route around. ### Eight live lessons in a typical month Two each week at a slot settled once when a learner enrols, not rebuilt weekly around shifts and school terms. ### An hour and a half between the clocks That is the gap between Oman and India. Terms, working hours, examination periods and Ramadan are all raised before a recurring time is written down. Two right answers do not look like a problem A learner who finds two populations usually assumes one is out of date and picks the larger. What redirects them is a teacher asking what each number counts, and waiting while they discover the answer is on neither source's front page. The 2020 census gives the town 7,814 and a population database gives the wilayat 10,093 for the same census. Both are published and both appear here, each labelled with what it counts. The 140 cases used to build the example rate are illustrative and the page says so. ### Why is a sourced figure not enough? Because a citation covers where a number came from, not what it counts. Both halves of a broken rate can carry perfect references. A reviewer checking provenance finds two good answers and no reason to look at the join between them, which is where the error lives. ### Is there a Modern Age Coders centre in Haima? No. No premises are claimed in Haima or anywhere in Al Wusta. Classes are live online and need a laptop or desktop, working audio, a current browser and a stable connection. The page describes where the service reaches, not a building. ### Which population should somebody use? Whichever matches the numerator. If the count covers the wilayat, use the wilayat figure; if it covers the town, use the town.
