# Bahrain checks the school's homework, and that is the whole idea

The short answer

Bahrain has an independent authority, BQA, that examines students at Grade 9 and Grade 12 against the national curriculum separately from their own school, and separately reviews the schools themselves. Modern Age Coders teaches live online coding and mathematics to ages 6 to 67 in Bahrain, in groups of five to eight or one to one, at USD 100 and USD 150 a month. The first class is free.

Most education systems ask a school to mark its own work. Bahrain does not, and that single structural choice is more useful to a parent than any brochure. It means there is an outside number to compare against the inside one, and the gap between them is where the real information lives.

Modern Age Coders teaches from India. Bahrain runs two and a half hours behind, so the slot a family wants after school is still a working evening at the other end. Lessons are online and no Bahrain branch is claimed. If model training rather than programming foundations is what you are looking for, that is a separate page: [AI and machine learning classes in Bahrain](/ai-and-machine-learning-classes-in-bahrain).

## Four sensible starting points, not one course for everybody

Four starting points rather than one course for everybody: a beginner, a learner whose mathematics needs to become testable, a teenager moving into typed code, and a Grade 9 student with an external paper ahead of them. Which one is right is decided by watching the learner, not by reading their last certificate.

That is four of more than a hundred. The rest, sorted by age and subject, sit on the [course atlas](/course-atlas), and the order we teach them in is on the [coding roadmap](/coding-roadmap).

### Python, AI, vibe coding and agentic coding

These run underneath everything above. Every one is live and online, placed by ability rather than by age, and the first class is free.

## An authority whose job is to check, not to teach

Two separate functions, both independent of the institution being measured.

Bahrain's Education and Training Quality Authority, usually written BQA, does two things that matter to a family choosing anything extra for a child.

The first is examination. BQA runs **national examinations at Grade 9 and at Grade 12**, testing skills and knowledge against Bahrain's national curriculum, and it assesses student performance independently of the school the student attends. The second is review. BQA inspects institutions and publishes what it finds, so a school's performance is a matter of public record rather than a claim in a prospectus.

Its own sector performance report for the 2025 to 2026 academic year gives the scale. BQA reviewed **172 of the 547 institutions within its scope, which it states as 31 per cent**, made up as follows.

| Institution type | Reviewed in 2025 to 2026 |
| --- | --- |
| Government schools | 50 |
| Private schools | 22 |
| Kindergartens | 51 |
| Special education institutions | 24 |
| Vocational education and training providers | 22 |
| Higher education institutions | 3 |

Why an independent examiner changes what a parent should look at

When the same body teaches and marks, a good report tells you the school is pleased. When a different body examines, a good result and a good report are two pieces of information rather than one. If a learner is strong in class and weaker on an external paper, that gap is the most useful signal available, and it usually points at reasoning under unfamiliar conditions rather than at effort.

That is the specific thing a coding class can address, and the reason this page leads with it rather than with a course list. Reasoning under unfamiliar conditions is what programming is. A learner is handed a problem they have not seen, has to break it into parts, has to be wrong in a way they can detect, and has to fix it. Nobody marks their own work in that process either; the program either runs or it does not.

Who we are usually teaching

## Several curricula, one small island, no travel involved

Placement follows the observed level in the free class, never the label on the previous course.

Bahrain runs the national curriculum alongside Indian curriculum schools on CBSE, and British, American and International Baccalaureate schools. For a CBSE family the consequence is concrete: the Class 9 to 12 computer science sequence is the one Modern Age Coders teaches in India daily, so a learner is not translating between two systems and can join an existing group rather than needing one built around them.

For everyone else the useful point is the same one BQA's existence makes. What matters is not which system a learner is in but what they can actually do when handed an unfamiliar problem, and that is what the free first class measures.

### Grade 9, the first external checkpoint

The best year to fix reasoning gaps, because they are still cheap to fix and the external paper will find them.

### Grade 12, the second

Reduce rather than add. One lesson a week, or a deliberate pause, is the honest recommendation in an examination year.

### Ages 6 to 12, before either

Sequencing, decomposition and debugging, learned with no examination pressure at all. This is the easiest window in the system.

Distance is not a factor in a country this size, and it is not a factor for us either, because nothing here requires a journey. Learners in Riffa, Muharraq, Isa Town, Hamad Town, Sitra and Budaiya sit in the same classes as everyone else.

Alignment

## What Bahrain's system checks, and which course answers it

Left is what the system actually measures. Right is what we would teach against it.

Grade 9 national examination

An external paper against the national curriculum, marked by somebody other than the school.

Problem decomposition and mathematics reasoning. The habit of restating a question before answering it, which is what unfamiliar papers punish.

Grade 12 national examination

The second external checkpoint, at the end of secondary schooling.

A lighter schedule, deliberately. We would rather say that than sell a full timetable into an examination year.

Published institutional review

Performance is a public record, so evidence rather than assertion is the local norm.

The data project below. Every claim carries its denominator, and a number nobody can check does not get published.

CBSE, Classes 9 to 12

A separate board with its own computer science sequence, running inside Bahrain.

Taught directly, by teachers who cover the same syllabus in India every day.

British, American and IB schools

Different labels, different stage names, genuinely different starting points.

Placement by observed ability in the free class. The previous course title is treated as information, not as a level.

If your child has a Grade 9 external paper coming and you want to know whether this helps, ask before booking anything.

## A course ladder that leaves room for school

Early on, the whole job is making something and then explaining how it works. Nothing gets more technical until a learner can find their own mistake without a teacher pointing at the line. The ladder is read against the two external checkpoints: build before Grade 9, consolidate after it, and thin out before Grade 12. Adults enter at the point their goal and prior knowledge support.

The student data project

## One number, six different kinds of thing

Every market page here works through one analytical trap. Bahrain's comes straight out of the figures above.

The learner is given BQA's own published breakdown and asked a reasonable question: what share of Bahrain's education institutions were reviewed this year? The answer is printed in the report. One hundred and seventy-two of five hundred and forty-seven, which is 31 per cent. The arithmetic is correct and the source is primary. The learner has a defensible headline in about a minute.

Then they are asked to write the sentence that goes under the headline, and the whole thing falls apart.

The trap

A kindergarten and a university are not one unit

The 172 is not 172 of one thing. It is 50 government schools, 22 private schools, 51 kindergartens, 24 special education institutions, 22 vocational providers and 3 higher education institutions. Six populations, each with a different size, a different total in scope, and a different meaning attached to being reviewed.

So the 31 per cent answers a question nobody actually asked. A parent wants to know what share of *schools* were reviewed. A vocational trainer wants to know about vocational providers. Neither can get their answer from the single figure, and both would be misled by it: the kindergartens alone are 51 of the 172, so nearly a third of the headline is about institutions that most people reading the phrase "education institutions" were not picturing.

The fix is not more arithmetic. It is refusing to divide until you can say what the numerator and the denominator are made of. The learner ends up writing six rates instead of one, discovering that they cannot complete four of them because the report gives reviewed counts but not the in-scope totals per type, and then writing that limitation down instead of hiding it. That last step is the actual lesson.

This is deliberately different from a units problem. Adding tonnes to cubic metres is one quantity measured two ways. This is six different entities counted as though they were the same entity, which is harder to see precisely because every number involved is an integer and looks clean.

The question parents ask first

## Will AI replace programmers before my child finishes school?

Bahrain already answered a version of this question at national scale, and the answer is the reason BQA exists.

A country could have let every school report its own results. It built an independent examiner instead, because a claim needs checking by somebody other than the party making it. An AI is a party making claims. Hand it BQA's table and ask for the share of institutions reviewed and it will return 31 per cent, formatted well, with no mention that the figure mixes kindergartens with universities. It is not lying. It answered the question asked, and the question was wrong.

The work that remains is deciding what to ask, noticing that the denominator is six things, and being unwilling to publish a rate you cannot describe. That is judgement, it is learnable, and it is what the project above trains. The syntax is the part the machine took.

The longer argument, with evidence: [is coding still worth learning in 2026?](/blog/is-coding-worth-learning-2026) The order we teach things is on the [coding roadmap](/coding-roadmap), and what a lesson looks like is on [how we teach](/how-we-teach).

Live online delivery

## How a class actually runs from Bahrain

Teaching, questions, code review and feedback all happen live. Nothing here is a recorded course.

### The free first class

A short task matched to the learner while the teacher watches the reasoning, then a recommended course and format. No fee.

### Five to eight per group

Grouped by present ability, drawn from the whole intake, so a small country never limits the group.

### One to one

For a precise adult goal, an unusual pace, or an examination-year schedule that has to flex.

### Twice a week

Normally eight lessons a month. Asking for fewer during external examination weeks is routine.

### Two and a half hours

Bahrain runs that far behind India, which is what makes an after-dinner slot workable at both ends.

### What is needed

A laptop or desktop, stable internet, working audio, a current browser. Nothing to buy.

Scheduling around a Bahraini calendar

The school week is Sunday to Thursday and the weekend is Friday and Saturday, so that is the frame we work in. Before the recurring slot is agreed, tell us about school hours, existing tuition, the Grade 9 or Grade 12 external papers if they apply, travel, and Ramadan timings. Changing a badly chosen slot later is harder than choosing it carefully once.

Fees

## What do coding classes in Bahrain cost?

No enrolment charge, nothing to buy, no minimum term.

Group$100per month, 8 classes

For a learner who gains from hearing how other people solved the same problem and can work at the shared level of five to eight.

Private$150per month, 8 classes

For a specific goal, an examination-year timetable that must move, or a starting point no current group matches well.

Every plan starts with the free session, which is where the fit is actually decided. Twice weekly is the standing rhythm for both. The figures are USD because that is the single published international rate, and how you settle it is agreed once the slot is fixed rather than before.

Pauses, plan changes and missed classes are covered on the [pricing page](/pricing).

FAQ

## Questions families in Bahrain ask before booking

Including the awkward one about whether there is a local office.

### Do the BQA national examinations affect what we should study?

They tell you something the school's own marks cannot. BQA examines students at Grade 9 and at Grade 12 against Bahrain's national curriculum, independently of the school. If a learner does well in class but less well on an external paper, that gap is the useful signal, and it usually points at reasoning rather than effort. That is the part a coding class can genuinely help with.

### My child is at an Indian curriculum school in Bahrain on CBSE. Does that match what you teach?

Directly. Modern Age Coders teaches the CBSE Class 9 to 12 computer science sequence in India every day, so the vocabulary and the style of question are already familiar to the teachers. A learner in Bahrain on that board joins an existing group rather than becoming a special case.

### What time do classes run from Bahrain?

Bahrain sits two and a half hours behind India. In practice that means the slot a family wants after school and after dinner is still a working evening for the teacher, which is why weekday evenings are realistic here. The recurring time is fixed on the free first call, once we know which group a learner belongs in.

### Which days do classes run?

The Bahraini school week is Sunday to Thursday and the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, so that is what we schedule around. Tell us about school hours, any existing tuition, and Ramadan timings before the slot is agreed, because a badly chosen recurring time is the most common reason a good plan quietly stops.

### How much do coding classes in Bahrain cost?

The first class is free. Group tuition is USD 100 per month for two live lessons each week, normally eight lessons monthly, in a group of five to eight compatible learners. Private tuition is USD 150 per month for one learner with one teacher on the same usual frequency. There is no enrolment fee, nothing to buy and no minimum term.

### Is there a Modern Age Coders centre in Bahrain?

No. No Bahrain office, branch or classroom is claimed. Every lesson is live online from India. A learner needs a laptop or desktop, stable internet, working audio and a current browser. The phone number on this page is Indian, and WhatsApp is the cheapest and fastest way to reach a person from Bahrain.

### Is coding still worth learning now that AI can write it?

Yes, and Bahrain's own system shows why. The country built an independent authority precisely because a claim needs checking by somebody other than the party making it. An AI makes claims. It writes a confident answer at the same speed whether the answer is right or wrong. Knowing how to check it is the skill, and it is the one the class trains.

### What age should a child start, and do you teach adults?

Modern Age Coders teaches ages 6 to 67. A six or seven year old works on sequencing and precise counting before any syntax. A Grade 8 or 9 learner is usually ready for Python or a specific mathematics gap. Adults come for reporting, automation and data work, and they are a normal part of the intake.

### My child finished a Scratch course. What comes next?

The free class answers that rather than the course title. Some learners who have completed blocks are ready for Python. Others have been dragging blocks without ever needing to name a variable, and going straight to syntax would waste a term. The teacher watches a short task and decides from what the learner actually does.

### How do we pay from Bahrain?

Fees are published in USD and the payment method is confirmed on the free call before anything is due. Nothing is charged for the first class, and sending the form does not create a paid enrolment.

## Let the first task decide the starting point

Nothing is charged for the first session. A learner is given one small problem suited to their age, and the teacher watches how they approach it rather than whether they finish it.
