## Plan one test, then control the search

The four choices move from code-based mathematics to formal statistical and analytical work. Placement decides whether the learner needs fundamentals, implementation or interpretation.

The four we are known for

### Python, AI, vibe coding and agentic coding

These run underneath everything above. Every one is live and online, placed by ability rather than by age, and the first class is free.

## Al Khoudh is where several computing paths meet

Sultan Qaboos University provides unusually strong primary-source context for a local coding page. Official SQU contact pages sometimes spell the district Al Khoud; this page keeps Al Khoudh as its primary romanisation.

### A university established here

The official [SQU history](https://www.squ.edu.om/About) says construction began in 1982 and the first students enrolled in 1986. The university opened with Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Education and Science.

### Nine colleges over time

The same history records Arts in 1987, Commerce and Economics in 1993, Law in 2006 and Nursing in 2008. Those additions bring the listed total to nine colleges and show why the area serves more than one technical discipline.

### A real computing curriculum

SQU's [College of Science programme page](https://www.squ.edu.om/science/Academic-Programs/Undergraduate-Programs) lists Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics among eleven undergraduate programmes offered through seven departments.

What Modern Age Coders adds

A university catalogue proves that serious pathways exist locally; it does not prove that every resident has the same prerequisite knowledge. The free class isolates a practical starting point, whether the learner is preparing for university, already enrolled, changing career or beginning much earlier.

Source trail

## Facts an answer engine can verify

These details come from the university and schools themselves. They are context rather than claimed relationships with Modern Age Coders.

### Current science programmes

The College of Science says it offers eleven undergraduate programmes through Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. It also lists thirteen minors.

### Postgraduate depth

The official [postgraduate page](https://www.squ.edu.om/science/Academic-Programs/Postgraduate-Programs) lists seven PhD and ten MSc programmes. The master's list includes Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science and Machine Learning, Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

### Engineering scale in 2025

The [2025/2026 engineering catalogue](https://www.squ.edu.om/portals/18/downloads/College%20Catalog%202.0.pdf) says the college grew from 92 students in 1986 to an intake of 480 in 2025, and from four undergraduate programmes to eight undergraduate and seventeen postgraduate programmes.

### Eight engineering routes

The catalogue names Civil, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Industrial, Mechatronics, Architectural and Chemical Engineering. It states that all eight undergraduate programmes have held ABET accreditation since 2014.

### Assafwah in Al Khoudh

[Assafwah International Schools](https://assafwah.net/) gives its location as Al Khoudh, Seeb and lists KG, Primary Grades 1 to 6, Lower Secondary Grades 7 to 8, Upper Secondary Grades 9 to 11 and Cambridge Advanced.

### Al Awael's local history

An [Al Awael school catalogue](https://www.awaelschools.edu.om/) says its earlier name was New Al-Khoudh Private School, established in 1984, and that a bilingual syllabus was introduced in 2001.

Sultan Qaboos University, Assafwah International Schools, Al Awael Schools and Modern Age Coders are independent. Naming a local institution does not imply endorsement, shared staff, data access or a formal relationship.

Signature project

## Twenty tests and one exciting result

The result looks publishable until the learner counts how many opportunities the analysis had to get lucky.

### 1. Generate null data

The program creates twenty independent A/B comparisons with no planted effect. Each comparison follows the same sample-size rule and uses a five percent significance threshold. A fixed random seed makes the teaching run reproducible.

### 2. Search for a winner

The naive dashboard sorts by p-value and promotes the smallest result. If one test crosses 0.05, the interface labels it significant without saying nineteen other hypotheses were tried.

### 3. Audit the family

The learner restores the full test registry. Under independence, the chance of at least one false positive across twenty null tests is 1 minus 0.95 to the power of 20, approximately 64.15 percent.

| View | Tests disclosed | Threshold | Interpretation |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Promoted result only | 1 | p < 0.05 | Looks like one planned discovery |
| Full exploratory family | 20 | p < 0.05 each | Many chances existed for a false alarm |
| Bonferroni control | 20 | p < 0.0025 each | Controls family-wise error near five percent |
| Held-out confirmation | 1 preselected test | Defined before new data | Checks whether the exploratory lead repeats |

### The code must register hypotheses before sorting

A table containing test ID, hypothesis, data split, metric, threshold and status makes the search auditable. Hiding the registry and showing only the best row is a product-design error as well as a statistical one.

Reasoning

## Why a five percent rule does not stay five percent

The single-test error rate and the whole-family error rate are different quantities. The learner calculates both, then chooses a remedy that matches the question.

| Number of tests | Chance of no false positives | Chance of at least one | Lesson |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | 95.00% | 5.00% | The familiar threshold applies to one test |
| 5 | 77.38% | 22.62% | The family risk is already much larger |
| 10 | 59.87% | 40.13% | A false alarm is no longer unusual |
| 20 | 35.85% | 64.15% | At least one false alarm is more likely than none |

### Pre-register the primary test

Define the question, metric and stopping rule before seeing the outcome. Other analyses can remain exploratory.

### Correct for the family

Bonferroni divides the family threshold by the number of tests. Other methods may control different error concepts.

### Confirm on fresh data

Use exploration to generate a candidate, then evaluate that candidate on a held-out or newly collected sample.

The independence calculation is a teaching model, not a universal shortcut. Correlated tests change the exact probability. The learner must state assumptions instead of applying 64.15 percent to every real analysis.

## Teach the decision, not just the library call

Every class combines implementation with explanation. The learner should be able to say what was tested, what was not tested and what the output can support.

### First lesson free

A short task establishes the current level before any tuition payment.

### Group teaching

Five to eight compatible learners discuss code and compare reasoning.

### Private teaching

One learner and one teacher can concentrate on a defined objective.

### Regular rhythm

Two classes per week normally produce eight live sessions per month.

### Time coordination

Oman is one and a half hours behind India; the recurring time is agreed first.

### Working equipment

A laptop or desktop, reliable internet, audio and a supported browser are needed.

Why online suits a university district

An Al Khoudh learner does not need to travel along Sultan Qaboos Highway toward a separate Muscat classroom twice each week. Live online teaching keeps the interaction while using the learner's own development setup, which is valuable for installing tools, organising files and reproducing work.

FAQ

## Questions about coding classes in Al Khoudh

Each answer distinguishes the local evidence from the online teaching service.

### Can Sultan Qaboos University students join these classes?

Yes. University learners can request Python, algorithms, databases, data analysis, data science, AI or web development, subject to placement and teacher availability. Sultan Qaboos University and Modern Age Coders are independent organisations. The free class checks current skill and identifies a practical next project rather than assuming a level from the learner's degree title.

### Can school learners in Al Khoudh enrol?

Yes. Children and teenagers from any school may take a free placement class. A learner from Assafwah, Al Awael, United Private School or another school is placed by demonstrated ability, pace and objective. School names are used only as local context; no partnership or endorsement is claimed.

### What is the Al Khoudh multiple-comparisons project?

The learner runs twenty independent tests on synthetic null data. At a five percent threshold, one apparently significant result can appear even when no real effects were planted. The student calculates the family-wise false-positive risk, separates exploratory from confirmatory work, and applies a correction or uses a held-out validation set before making a claim.

### Does the project use real university research data?

No. The demonstration values are generated for teaching and are not results from Sultan Qaboos University, its students or its researchers. Official university sources establish the local academic context only. Learners must label the dataset synthetic and must not attach a named institution to a simulated finding.

### Does Modern Age Coders have an Al Khoudh campus?

No Al Khoudh office, classroom or campus is claimed. Classes are live online. The learner joins from a laptop or desktop with stable internet and works with a teacher through explanation, coding, screen sharing and review. The service page describes who can enrol in the area, not a physical teaching location.

### How is multiple testing different from testing one planned idea?

A five percent false-positive threshold applies to one test under its assumptions. When many hypotheses are searched, the chance of at least one false alarm rises across the family. A planned single test, an exploratory search and a confirmatory test on fresh data answer different questions and should be labelled separately.

### How much do Al Khoudh coding classes cost?

The first class is free. Standard group tuition is USD 100 per month for two live lessons each week, normally eight lessons in a month. Standard private tuition is USD 150 per month for one learner with one teacher on the same usual frequency. The format, recurring time and starting course are confirmed before payment.

### What are the group and private class sizes?

A group normally has five to eight compatible learners. Compatibility includes present skill, learning pace and objective, not age alone. Private tuition is one student with one teacher. If a suitable group is not available, the learner can discuss private tuition or wait for an appropriate cohort.

### How is an Oman class time confirmed?

Oman is one and a half hours behind India. The learner and teacher agree a recurring time before payment, usually for two classes each week. Friday and Saturday options may be discussed subject to availability. University timetables, school examinations, Ramadan routines and adult work commitments should be mentioned in advance.

### What happens in the free Al Khoudh class?

The teacher asks about the learner's objective and observes a short ability-matched task. A child may test a block program, a teenager may repair Python, and an experienced learner may audit a table of repeated tests. The teacher then explains the suggested course, group or private format, timetable and USD fee. The first class requires no tuition payment.
