## Where Part A is taught alongside the AI units

The 417 course covers both parts of the theory paper. The other two are where the skills Part A talks about, communication, ICT and problem solving, get used for real.

Ans. The short version

Part A of the CBSE Class 10 Artificial Intelligence (417) theory paper is employability skills: five units, Communication Skills, Self-Management Skills, ICT Skills, Entrepreneurial Skills and Green Skills, carrying two marks each for ten of the fifty theory marks. In the latest sample paper that means any four of six one-mark objective questions and any three of five two-mark short answers. Questions are short and predictable: a definition with an example, a list of types or features, a difference between two terms. Students lose these marks by not revising them, not because they are hard. Modern Age Coders teaches Part A in compact revision blocks inside the Monday 9 PM IST theory class, with a weekly ten-question drill from November, and in personalised one to one at the family's own timing.

Q1. What does Part A contain?

## Five units, two marks each, and what the paper asks from every one

The CBSE curriculum for code 417 lists Part A as employability skills with fifty hours of teaching across the year and ten marks in the theory paper. These are the Class 10 versions of the same five units students met in Class 9, one level deeper.

| Unit | Marks | What it covers | What the questions usually ask |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Communication Skills | 2 | Methods of communication, the communication cycle and feedback, barriers to communication, principles of effective communication, writing skills | Name the elements of the cycle; classify a barrier; list or apply the 7Cs |
| Self-Management Skills | 2 | Stress management, self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses, self-motivation, self-regulation, goal setting and time management | Ways to manage stress; SMART goals; internal versus external motivation |
| ICT Skills | 2 | Basic computer operations and the operating system, files and folders, computer care and maintenance, computer security and privacy | Types of malware and how to stay safe; basic care of a computer; what an operating system does |
| Entrepreneurial Skills | 2 | Entrepreneurship and society, qualities and functions of an entrepreneur, myths about entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship as a career | Qualities of an entrepreneur; a myth and the reality; role in society |
| Green Skills | 2 | Sustainable development, its importance and the problems it addresses, the Sustainable Development Goals, our role in sustainable development | Define sustainable development; name SDGs; actions a student can take |
| Part A total | 10 | Fifty hours across the year | In the latest sample paper: any 4 of 6 one-mark objective questions, any 3 of 5 two-mark short answers |

In the latest official sample paper, for 2025-26, Part A appears twice: Question 1 offers six one-mark objective questions of which any four are answered, and Section B offers five two-mark short answers of which any three are answered, four plus six for the ten marks. Self-Management Skills supplies the most questions, three of the eleven. Read the right-hand column and a pattern appears: almost every question is a definition, a short list or a difference. None needs a paragraph, and none needs anything outside the textbook. That is precisely why Part A rewards an evening of focused practice more than any other part of the paper, and why skipping it is such an expensive mistake. Ten marks is a fifth of the theory paper; for a student aiming at a high score, Part A is usually the difference between a good result and a distinction. The full unit ledger for Part B, the AI units, is set out on [the 417 syllabus explained](/cbse-class-10-ai-syllabus-explained).

Q2. What does a two-mark answer look like?

## Five model answers, one from each unit, written the way the marking scheme reads

A two-mark Part A answer is usually two value points. The model answers below give exactly that: no introduction, no conclusion, the board's own terms, and an example where the question invites one.

### Communication: name any two barriers to effective communication, with an example of each.

**Physical barrier:** noise or distance stops the message reaching the receiver, for example a loudspeaker announcement drowned out by traffic. **Linguistic barrier:** sender and receiver do not share a language or vocabulary, for example technical terms used with someone who does not know them. Other accepted barriers include interpersonal, organisational and cultural ones.

### Self-management: what is a SMART goal? Give one example.

A SMART goal is **Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound**. Example: "I will solve one full 417 sample paper every Sunday for the next six weeks." It names the task, can be counted, is realistic, serves the board exam and has a deadline.

### ICT: differentiate between a virus and a worm.

A **virus** attaches itself to a file or program and spreads only when that file is opened or run. A **worm** is a standalone program that copies itself and spreads across a network on its own, without needing a host file or a user action. Both are kept out with updated antivirus software and by not opening unknown attachments.

### Entrepreneurship: state any two qualities of a successful entrepreneur.

**Risk-taking:** willing to invest time and money in an idea whose outcome is uncertain. **Perseverance:** keeps working through setbacks and early failures instead of giving up. Other accepted qualities include creativity, confidence, decision-making and hard work.

### Green skills: what is sustainable development?

Sustainable development is **development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs**. Example: using solar power and rainwater harvesting in a school, so today's needs are met while energy and water are conserved for the future.

### Green skills: name any two Sustainable Development Goals.

The United Nations set seventeen Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Any two, named correctly, for example **Goal 4, Quality Education** and **Goal 13, Climate Action**. Naming the number and the title together is the safest way to earn both marks.

Notice what is absent: no "In today's world", no restating the question, no third point squeezed in for safety. Examiners look for the value points and move on, so an answer built from exactly those points is faster to write and harder to under-mark. The Sustainable Development Goals also link Part A to Part C: the 417 project must relate to an SDG, so a student who knows the goals well chooses a project faster. The project side is planned on [the project and practical file page](/cbse-class-10-ai-project-and-practical-file).

Q3. Where do students actually lose Part A marks?

## The same communication question, answered for one mark and for two

Explain the communication cycle.

***The one-mark answer**what most students write*

```
Communication is the process of
sharing information between two
people. One person speaks and the
other listens and understands. It
is very important in daily life and
at work.
# A definition of communication,
# not of the cycle. No elements,
# no feedback, no order.
```

True, readable and almost entirely off the question. The word "cycle" is a signal that the answer needs stages in order and a return path.

***The two-mark answer**what the value points reward*

```
Sender   creates the message (idea)
   |
Message  put into words, signs or text
   |
Channel  the medium: speech, email, call
   |
Receiver gets and interprets it
   |
Feedback receiver responds to sender,
         which completes the cycle
Without feedback the sender cannot
know the message was understood.
```

Five elements in order, the return path named, and one line on why feedback matters. A labelled flow like this is quicker to write than a paragraph and impossible to misread.

The habit generalises across all five units: read the key noun in the question, cycle, types, qualities, difference, and give the answer the shape that noun demands. Students who practise ten such questions a week for six weeks stop losing Part A marks entirely, which is why the drill below exists.

Q4. How is Part A taught in our classes?

## Compact revision blocks, then a weekly ten-question drill

Part A does not need its own class. It needs to be taught clearly once, then practised briefly and often, so the answers are automatic by February.

1. #### One revision block per unit, inside the Monday class

  Each unit is taught in a focused block of a Monday theory class: the terms, the lists and the differences the paper asks for, with the textbook's own vocabulary. Wednesday practical time is never spent on Part A; that belongs to Python and the practical file.
2. #### A one-page answer sheet per unit

  Students build their own single page per unit: definitions, lists, differences and one example each. Writing it themselves is the revision; the page is what they read the night before the paper.
3. #### The weekly drill from November

  The last minutes of a Monday class become a ten-question Part A drill, two per unit, answered to a timer and marked on the spot against the value points. Doubts are cleared live before the class ends.
4. #### Part A inside every full mock

  Every timed mock paper includes Part A in the same shape as the CBSE sample paper, so students practise answering it quickly and moving on to the AI questions with time in hand.
5. #### A final sweep in the last week

  In the final week before the paper, Part A is maintenance only: the five answer sheets read once a day. No new material, just the ten marks kept warm.

The full mock series, including how the official sample paper is solved live, is on [the 417 sample paper and mock tests page](/cbse-class-10-ai-sample-paper-and-mock-tests), and the unit-by-unit question bank for Part B is on [the important questions page](/cbse-class-10-ai-important-questions).

Q5. Which Part A habits cost marks?

## Six habits that quietly give away employability marks

### Treating it as general knowledge

"I know what communication is" is not the same as knowing the five elements of the cycle in order. Part A is marked against the textbook's terms, and common sense rarely uses them.

### Writing essays for two marks

A long paragraph hides the value points and eats time the AI questions need. Two clear points, labelled, beat eight lines of prose every time.

### Mixing up similar lists

The 7Cs of communication, the parts of SMART, the types of barrier and the kinds of malware blur together under pressure. A one-page sheet per unit keeps them apart.

### No example when one is invited

Questions that say "with an example" award a mark for it. Students who give a perfect definition and no example cap themselves at half.

### Leaving Part A to the end of the paper

Students who answer the AI questions first sometimes run out of time and rush the easiest marks. We practise answering Part A early and quickly in every mock.

### Revising it only once

Part A is learned in an evening and forgotten in a month. Little and often, a few questions a week, is what makes the answers automatic in February.

Questions about Part A

## What students ask about the employability skills units

### How many marks is Part A in CBSE Class 10 AI?

Ten marks of the fifty-mark theory paper. Part A has five employability skills units, Communication Skills, Self-Management Skills, ICT Skills, Entrepreneurial Skills and Green Skills, and each carries two marks. The other forty theory marks come from the Part B AI units, and the remaining fifty marks of the subject are the practical.

### Is Part A the same as in Class 9?

The same five areas, one level deeper. The Class 10 units carry the suffix II in the curriculum, Communication Skills II, Green Skills II and so on, and they build on what was met in Class 9 with new topics and more application. Students should revise from the Class 10 textbook, not their Class 9 notes.

### What kind of questions come from Part A?

Short ones. In the latest official sample paper, Part A has six one-mark objective questions, of which any four are answered, and five two-mark short answers, of which any three are answered. They ask for a definition, a list of types or features, a difference between two terms, or an example. None of them needs an essay.

### Do you teach Part A or only the AI units?

Both. Part A is taught in compact revision blocks inside the Monday theory classes, and from November every Monday class ends with a short Part A drill marked on the spot. Wednesday practical time stays on Python and the practical file.

### How long does it take to prepare Part A?

Less than any other part of the paper. Each unit can be learned properly in an evening or one focused class block. What takes longer is keeping it fresh, which is why we use a few questions a week over several weeks rather than a single cram session.

### Which Part A unit do students find hardest?

Usually none is hard, but ICT Skills and Communication Skills cause the most lost marks, because their lists, types of malware, barriers, elements of the cycle and the 7Cs, are easy to mix up under pressure. A one-page summary per unit fixes that.

### Can I skip Part A and still score well?

You can pass, but skipping it gives away up to ten of fifty theory marks, a fifth of the paper, from the easiest questions in it. For anyone aiming at a high score, skipping Part A is the most expensive shortcut in the subject.

### Do overseas CBSE students study the same Part A?

Yes. CBSE schools outside India follow the same 417 curriculum and sit the same paper, so Part A is identical for a student in Dubai, Doha, Muscat or Kathmandu. The 9 PM IST batch is early evening across the Gulf, and personalised one to one covers other time zones.

### Is Part A available as a separate short course?

Part A is taught as part of the full 417 course rather than sold on its own. If your child is strong in the AI units and only needs Part A, personalised one to one can cover all five units in a few focused sessions, billed as the normal monthly fee.

### How do I book a free demo?

Fill in the form on this page or message us on WhatsApp. A mentor calls within a few hours to fix a time. The demo is a real 417 class and includes a short Part A check, so you see your child's starting point before deciding anything.
