Courses

## The courses students in Salalah start on

Python first, then real data, then a model with an error you can state. In that order.

In short

Modern Age Coders teaches a live online Python and AI track to learners in Salalah and across Dhofar, aged six to sixty-seven, in batches of five to eight or one to one. Students write real Python, work with real data, train and measure models, build agents, and publish on GitHub. Group teaching is USD 100 a month and private teaching USD 150. The first class is free, and there is no centre in Oman to travel to.

The number that shapes everything here

## About a thousand kilometres of desert between Dhofar and where the opportunities are announced

Salalah families already know this. It is worth writing down anyway, because it changes what an honest provider should promise and what it should refuse to.

Dhofar is not a suburb of anything. Between Salalah and Muscat lies most of a country, and the practical consequence is that anything advertised as national tends in practice to happen in the capital. When the Ministry of Education inaugurated the National Olympiad for Scientific Innovations, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for 2025/26 on 1 December 2025, it did so at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat, with more than 250 students and 108 supervising teachers and specialists drawn from directorates across the governorates.

A Dhofari student on that stage has therefore travelled to be there. That is not a complaint about the Olympiad, which has to be somewhere. It is a description of the extra cost that a family in the far south quietly carries on top of everything a family in Al Khuwair pays.

Here is the distinction we want to be scrupulous about, because it is the one most online providers blur. **Teaching this subject online removes the distance entirely. Competing in it does not.** A student in Salalah can be taught by the same person, in the same batch, at the same standard as a student anywhere on earth, for the price of a connection. If they then want to stand on a national stage, someone still has to book a flight.

What we can do about the second half is make the travelling worth it. A student who arrives with a project that runs, that states its own error rate and that is readable on GitHub is in a different category from one who arrives with a demonstration. Getting a student to that point is entirely a teaching problem, and teaching problems are the ones distance no longer touches.

One more thing needs saying, because an argument built on distance can easily slide into an insult, and that is not the intention. Dhofar is not short of institutions or of capable students. It has universities and colleges of its own, schools that send students to national competitions, and a governorate administration that takes education seriously. The specific shortage this page addresses is narrower than "there is nothing here": it is the absence of a weekly, sequenced route from Python through machine learning to agents, taught by the same person across a year, at a level above introductory robotics. That is a thin market almost everywhere outside a handful of capitals, and it happens to be exactly the thing that online delivery is good at supplying.

Sources: the 2025/26 National Olympiad launch date, venue, participation of more than 250 students and 108 supervising teachers and specialists, and its 70 projects across four fields, as reported by [Muscat Daily](https://www.muscatdaily.com/2025/12/01/oman-launches-national-olympiad-for-student-scientific-innovation-robotics-and-ai/). What a Salalah student builds

## Five rungs, and the one where distance stops mattering at all

The track is the same everywhere we teach it, because the subject does not vary by governorate. What varies is which rung a family should be aiming at, and how soon.

| Rung | Roughly | What the student actually does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Python by hand | Age 9 to 12 | Real syntax rather than blocks: loops, functions, files, errors read and fixed |
| 2. Data | Age 11 to 14 | A messy file loaded, cleaned, plotted, and the poisonous row found |
| 3. Machine learning | Age 12 to 16 | A model trained, its error stated in a real unit, and compared against a baseline |
| 4. Agents | Age 13 to 18 | A program given a goal that picks its steps, calls tools, and fails loudly |
| 5. GitHub and the write-up | Any | The code published with an honest account of what it does and where it breaks |

### Rung five is the one that travels

Every rung above matters, but the fifth is the one that solves the Dhofar problem. A public repository does not care where it was written. An admissions officer, a competition judge or an employer in Muscat opens the same link a teacher in Salalah opened, sees the same commits, and reads the same honest note about what the project cannot do.

That is a genuinely different asset from a certificate, and it is the one thing a student a thousand kilometres from the capital can accumulate at exactly the same rate as anybody else. The detail of how that is done is on [build real AI projects](/build-real-ai-projects-oman).

### Where to start, by age

Under about ten: sequencing, prediction and argument, with typing kept light. Eleven to thirteen: Python written by hand, then real data. Fourteen upward: models with measured error, then agents. Adults usually arrive with a specific job to automate and go one to one.

The full sequence with the reasoning is the [Python to AI roadmap](/python-to-ai-roadmap-for-students-oman), and the school-age machine learning stage is set out on [this page](/machine-learning-for-school-students-oman). For general coding rather than this track, Dhofar already has a guide: [coding classes in Salalah](/coding-classes-in-salalah).

How a term runs from Dhofar

## Half an hour between Salalah and the teacher, permanently

Oman holds Gulf Standard Time all year and India holds Indian Standard Time all year, so the difference is a fixed thirty minutes that no season ever moves. A slot agreed in Salalah in one term is still the right slot in the next.

16:30 to 18:00

Salalah time. Primary age children, straight after school.

18:30 to 20:00

Salalah time. The main teenage block, after dinner.

20:30 to 22:00

Salalah time. University students and working adults on weeknights.

### The opening session

Free, and it decides which rung. One problem, watched rather than marked, then a recommendation you can argue with.

### Batches of five to eight

Drawn on ability from twenty-five countries. Dhofar is not a catchment area as far as grouping is concerned.

### Or one to one

For a narrow adult goal, a crowded examination year, or a household week that no standing slot survives.

### Ninety minutes, twice weekly

Screens shared both ways, so a wrong idea is caught while it forms rather than after it is submitted.

### A fixed thirty minutes

Neither country moves its clocks, so a time settled once is correct in every month of the year.

### Committed as it is written

Work goes to GitHub during the term, not at the end of it. A student accumulates a history.

That is not a slogan, it is the whole commercial argument for a family in Dhofar. Almost everything else in this subject is easier in the capital: the courses, the competitions, the people to ask. A public GitHub project is the one asset where the thousand kilometres between Salalah and Muscat costs a student nothing at all. Questions from Dhofar

## What families in Salalah ask first

### There is very little in Salalah for this subject. Is that actually true?

In-person options for the layer above beginner robotics are thin once you leave the capital, and that is the honest reason this page exists. What we would not do is overstate it: Dhofar has universities, it has schools with capable teachers, and it produces students who reach national competitions. What it has less of is a weekly, structured route from Python through machine learning to agents, taught by the same person for a year. That is the specific gap, and it is one an online batch fills better than a local one could.

### Do you have anywhere in Salalah, or anywhere in Oman?

Nowhere in Dhofar and nowhere in the country. Every session is a live video call taught from India, and the telephone number on this page rings in India rather than in Oman. On your side the requirements are ordinary: a computer with a keyboard, a connection that carries video for ninety minutes, audio the teacher can hear, and a browser from the last few years.

### What time would the class be, and does it move with the seasons?

It does not move at all. Oman holds Gulf Standard Time for the whole year and India holds Indian Standard Time for the whole year, so the separation is permanently thirty minutes. Half past six in the evening in Salalah is six o'clock for the teacher. Families who have dealt with providers in Europe or America usually find that a relief, because a schedule agreed in one season there normally has to be redone in the next.

### How much does it cost?

A group batch of five to eight students is USD 100 a month and one to one teaching is USD 150 a month, billed in US dollars, the same flat figures everywhere outside India. There is no enrolment fee, no annual contract, and the first class is free without a card.

### My child likes robots. Is this the same thing?

It is the thing that comes after. Robotics is an excellent way to meet sequence, condition and feedback, and a child who has enjoyed it usually has better instincts than one who has not. What it does not by itself provide is Python written by hand, data that has not been tidied for you, a model whose error you can state, or an agent that decides its own steps. Those are the four rungs this track adds, and a robotics background makes them easier rather than redundant.

### Can a student here really reach a national competition?

Reaching one is a travel question and we will not pretend otherwise. Being worth the journey is a teaching question, and that is the half we can do something about. For scale: the 2025/26 National Olympiad drew more than 250 students with 70 projects across four fields, of which Information Technology is one. A student arriving with something that runs, that has a measured error and that a judge can open on GitHub is not lost in a crowd of thousands.

### What if the connection here is not good enough?

Then we will say so rather than take the booking. Bandwidth is the one genuine risk in this arrangement, and the free first class is partly there to test it. If a ninety minute video call with screen sharing struggles at your house, a term of them will be miserable and we would rather lose the sale than have you find that out in week three.

### Is this instead of school?

Alongside, and it awards nothing of its own beyond a completion certificate. What it adds is consecutive weeks on one build with somebody who can read code that does not work and explain why, which is the thing a school timetable is least able to give any single subject. When the right advice is fewer lessons, during an examination term for instance, we give it.

### Do adults in Salalah join?

Regularly, and usually one to one. Ages six to sixty-seven are taught. The common pattern is an adult with a specific job to automate, often a monthly report or a set of records currently maintained by hand, who wants it finished rather than studied indefinitely. Those goals typically take a few months.

### What happens after we send the form?

A mentor telephones you at an Omani hour to arrange the free session. No card is requested and nothing is charged. Being clear about what sending it does: it opens a conversation rather than an enrolment, and it holds no seat in any class. Course, format and evening are all settled in that conversation, ahead of any discussion of money.

## One problem, watched carefully, and an honest recommendation

The opening session costs nothing and is a lesson rather than a pitch. A learner attempts a single problem chosen for their age while the teacher reads the approach rather than the result, and it is also when we find out whether your connection will carry a term of this. What comes back afterwards is specific enough to disagree with: this rung, this format, this evening, and the reasoning behind each.
