Here that is Dubai International Airport. The first three quarters sum to 70.1 million, precisely the nine month total Dubai Airports reported, and adding the fourth gives 95.2 million, precisely the published full year, up 3.1 per cent. If a student's file does not reproduce both totals, no model built on it can be right. The movements column deliberately behaves differently. The first half is published as one combined figure of 222,000, so that column cannot be summed the way the passenger column can. Refusing to add up a column that was never meant to be added is the lesson of the first hour. pandasscikit-learn matplotliblinear regression gradient boostingmean absolute error Below quarterly level the operator published only five figures, and only those count as read rather than invented: January 2025 at 8.5 million, April 2025 at 8.0 million, December 2025 at 8.7 million and up 6.1 per cent, March 2026 at 2.5 million and down 65.7 per cent, and the Q1 2026 total of 18.6 million, down 20.6 per cent. The covariates are equally concrete: a 2025 load factor of 77.6 per cent, 214 passengers per aircraft movement, and 291 destinations across 110 countries flown by 108 airlines. Then the shock. Dubai Airports reports disruption beginning on 28 February 2026 and intensifying through March under regional airspace restrictions, with airspace fully restored as of its release of 4 May 2026. If it does not close, stop and find the error. Reconciling before modelling is the habit this project is really teaching. 2. #### Disaggregate quarters into months, and label what you invented Split each quarter into three months under a sum to quarter constraint, anchored on the four months published individually. Add a boolean column is_derived, TRUE on everything you produced rather than read. A derived value must never be quoted later as published. 3. #### Build the calendar features by hand Map dates to Ramadan overlap days. Ramadan 2025 ran roughly 1 to 30 March, and Ramadan 2026 began 18 February with Eid Al Fitr forecast for 20 March. Layer in Ministry of Education term dates, including winter break 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. 4. #### Face the confound instead of hiding it Ramadan 2026 began 18 February and the disruption began 28 February, so across March 2026 the two effects are collinear and cannot be separated from this data. Estimate the Ramadan coefficient on clean March 2025, hold it fixed, and write the limitation into the notebook in plain words. 5. #### Fit three models in order and compare them honestly A seasonal naive baseline, then linear regression, then gradient boosting, each scored by mean absolute error in millions of passengers. Report what you measured. On a series this short the complicated model often loses, and saying so beats a leaderboard. 6. #### Run the shock experiment Fit without the airspace_restricted flag, predict March 2026, and record the error against the published actual of 2.5 million. Then refit with the flag. Whatever that first error turns out to be, its size is the lesson about forecasting blind. 7. #### Backtest, then write the forecast note Hide Q4 2025, published actual 25.1 million, predict it, and report mean absolute error and mean absolute percentage error. Then write a one page note on 2026 from the published Q1 actual of 18.6 million and say plainly whether the operator's original 99.5 million projection is still reachable. The distinction ## Operating AI and engineering it are different subjects We teach both, in that order, and we tell parents plainly which of the two holds its value. Prompting is a product skill, and products get replaced. Building models rests on mathematics, and that foundation does not shift. #### Using AI tools - Type a request, read the reply, reword it until the reply looks acceptable - Learn the interface of whichever product happens to be ahead this year - Success means output that reads plausibly to a non specialist - Almost nothing carries over when the product changes or the pricing does - Worth about a term of anyone's time, taught properly and then left behind - We do teach it, including how to catch an answer that is confident and wrong #### Building AI - Assemble and clean the data, then defend every choice you made about it - Pick a model knowing what it is quietly assuming on your behalf - Train it, then state the error in a unit a parent could check - Work out whether a failure belongs to the data, the features or the model - Put it in front of real inputs and watch it degrade against them - Founded on statistics, linear algebra and code, which do not date The distinction is unusually concrete here, because the UAE is building AI rather than only buying it. The Technology Innovation Institute open sources the Falcon family, so a teenager in Sharjah can fine tune and deploy a model trained in their own country. The federal Agentic AI Project commits to retraining 80,000 government employees. None of that needs more people who can write a prompt. Why now, in the UAE ## A country that decided to build AI, and what that asks of a student The UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 was launched in October 2017, the first national AI strategy in the Arab world, and updated in 2021. That same month Omar Sultan Al Olama became Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, the first such minister anywhere. His portfolio widened in July 2020 to Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, and he now leads the Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data. The strategy names its priority sectors plainly: energy and utilities, healthcare, tourism and hospitality, logistics and transportation, and cybersecurity. On 4 May 2025 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced that AI becomes a compulsory subject in every UAE government school from Kindergarten to Grade 12. It covers seven domains, running from fundamental concepts, data and algorithms and software through to ethical awareness, real world applications, innovation and project design, and policies and community engagement, and it is taught inside the existing Computing, Creative Design and Innovation course with no extra class hours. Cycle One and Two students get one class every two weeks and Cycle Three students one a week, delivered by around 1,000 teachers who completed advanced training. Education Minister Sarah Al Amiri set out the detail at a Dubai briefing reported on 23 August 2025. On 18 May 2026 the UAE Cabinet approved a federal framework for the Agentic AI Project, requiring at least 50 per cent of federal government services and operations to move to agentic AI models within two years, with 80,000 federal employees trained across five occupational categories. Phase one covers citizens' services, residents' services, business sector services and general public services. Dubai adds its own layer: 22 Chief AI Officers appointed across government entities under the Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence, and the Dubai AI Academy, launched on 25 April 2025 at the DIFC Innovation Hub with the Said Business School at Oxford, Udacity, the Minerva Project and DIFC Academy, targeting 10,000 leaders. The physical layer is being poured in Abu Dhabi, where Stargate UAE, announced on 22 May 2025, is a 5 gigawatt compute cluster across 10 square miles built by G42 with OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group and Cisco. Read that list as a parent and every item on it is a construction project. None of them is short of people who can write a prompt. KG to Grade 12 AI compulsory in every UAE government school from the 2025-26 academic year 50% in 2 years Federal services to move to agentic AI under the May 2026 Cabinet framework 100,000 Ten year Golden Visas for coders under the National Program for Coders 5 GW Compute planned at the Abu Dhabi AI campus, first 200 MW phase due in 2026 ### Where the demand actually sits AIQ, the ADNOC and G42 joint venture set up in 2020 in which Presight holds 51 per cent, announced a 340 million US dollar three year contract in 2025 to deploy ENERGYai across ADNOC's upstream value chain. ENERGYai combines large language models with agentic AI trained on 70 years of proprietary data, built with G42 and Microsoft on Azure, the Open Subsurface Data Universe framework and OpenAI models. AIQ has developed 200 AI use cases at ADNOC, including predictive maintenance that cuts drilling site downtime. The Technology Innovation Institute open sources the Falcon family, from Falcon LLM in 2023 to Falcon H1 on 21 May 2025 and Falcon H1 Arabic on 5 January 2026. PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer names the UAE among the world's fastest growing AI talent markets, with financial services carrying the highest local AI wage premium. Employers running real data teams here include e&, Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Mashreq, the Emirates Group, DP World, Careem, Talabat and Tabby. School and university ## How this maps onto your child's current curriculum ### The schools, and two academic years in one household In 2024-25 the KHDA regulated private sector in Dubai held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula to 185 nationalities, a 6 per cent rise in enrolment. By students the split was UK 36 per cent, Indian 26 per cent, American 15 per cent, International Baccalaureate 7 per cent and UAE Ministry of Education 4 per cent, with Indian provision concentrated in 34 schools carrying more than 99,603 students. The Education Cost Index for 2025-26 was set at 2.35 per cent, and on 22 May 2026 KHDA confirmed no fee increase for Dubai private schools in 2026-27. The UAE has 106 CBSE affiliated schools, the largest CBSE network outside India, and CBSE's new Global Curriculum is scheduled to launch from April 2026, reported as still at the draft stage, with KHDA, ADEK and SPEA collaborating on contextualisation, teacher training and certificate recognition. In Abu Dhabi the latest ADEK Irtiqa'a round covered 204 private schools, rating 13 Outstanding, 51 Very Good, 93 Good, 42 Acceptable and 5 Weak against six core standards and 17 performance indicators. The scheduling consequence is one most providers miss. Indian curriculum schools run April to March, while British, American and IB schools run from late August or September to June or July, so a Dubai household can be running two academic years at once. We batch by level and slot rather than by board, and we schedule around CBSE and CISCE boards from February to April, Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, AS and A Level in May and June, and IB and AP in May. ### MBZUAI, Khalifa, UAEU, and the mathematics gate Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi, the world's first graduate level AI university, received more than 8,000 applications for Fall 2025 and admitted 403 students, an acceptance rate of 5 per cent, taking enrolment past 700 from over 47 nationalities. UAE nationals were 25 per cent of the undergraduate intake, and 151 incoming graduate students, 27.5 per cent, arrived with degrees from top 100 computer science universities. It offers a BSc in Artificial Intelligence with Engineering and Business streams, MSc programmes from Computer Vision to Natural Language Processing, and PhDs including Human-Computer Interaction. Khalifa University offers a BS in Computer Science and a BSc in Computer Engineering, with shortlisted undergraduates normally sitting the Khalifa University Admission Test in mathematics and science. UAEU in Al Ain made AI a mandatory requirement for every student regardless of major from the Fall semester of 2025/2026. BITS Pilani Dubai Campus admits to its B.E. in Computer Science directly on Class 12 marks, requiring Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with 60 per cent overall and 60 per cent in PCM. Other in market routes include University of Birmingham Dubai, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Amity University Dubai, New York University Abu Dhabi, American University of Sharjah and Heriot-Watt University Dubai. One pattern runs through all of it. Khalifa tests mathematics. MBZUAI weighs prior depth. UAEU has made AI unavoidable for a medical student and an engineer alike. A child who spent five years getting good at prompting and no time on linear algebra meets none of it, which is why our teens track teaches the mathematics inside the machine learning. How the classes run ## Built around a week that ends at Friday lunchtime The UAE keeps Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4, with no daylight saving at any point in the year, which puts it exactly one hour and thirty minutes behind Indian Standard Time. When it is 8:00 PM in Mumbai it is 6:30 PM in Dubai, so our main teaching block lands on a UAE school evening rather than late at night. 17:00 to 18:30 Weekdays, 18:30 to 20:00 IST. Primary and middle school, once the school day and the drive home are done. 19:30 to 21:00 Weekdays, 21:00 to 22:30 IST. Grade 9 to 12 students and working adults, after dinner. Sat 10:00 to 12:00 11:30 to 13:30 IST. The strongest slot for a two hour project build, because Saturday is a full weekend day in every emirate. ### The weekend is the part that catches people out Since 1 January 2022 the UAE working and school week has run Monday to Friday with an early Friday finish, and the weekend is Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. Schools in emirates following the federal directive may hold classes only until a maximum of 12:00 on Fridays. Sharjah is the exception and moved to a four day week, Monday to Thursday, so a Sharjah family is free all day Friday while a Dubai or Abu Dhabi family is not free until Friday midday. That produces a fourth slot we run on request: Friday at 2:00 PM UAE time, 3:30 PM in India. A session is ninety minutes of live video with a teacher who remembers what your child got stuck on last week. Screens are shared both ways, so a mistake gets interrupted as it happens rather than marked three days later. Batches are five to eight students, or one to one. Between sessions students get something to build, break and bring back. ### The academic calendar we plan around The Ministry of Education has published a three year calendar. For schools on the Ministry curriculum the 2026-27 year starts 31 August 2026 for students and 24 August for teaching and administrative staff, with a mid term break 12 to 18 October 2026, winter break 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, spring break 5 to 11 April 2027, and an end date of 2 July 2027. The 2027-28 year starts 30 August 2027, with a mid term break 11 to 17 October, winter break 13 December 2027 to 2 January 2028, spring break 27 March to 2 April 2028, and an end date of 30 June 2028. Ramadan and Eid move about eleven days earlier each year and shorten the school day. Ramadan 2026 began on 18 February 2026 and Eid Al Fitr was forecast for Friday 20 March 2026 by the Emirates Astronomy Society, subject to the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee. That puts Ramadan 2027 in early February, running into the CBSE board window, which is worth planning for now. Commemoration Day and UAE National Day fall on 1, 2 and 3 December, and the long summer break covers July and August. Arush Poddar Student Questions from the UAE ## What families in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah ask us first ### My child's UAE school already teaches AI from KG to Grade 12. Why pay for classes on top of that? Because the school programme is literacy and ours is construction. The government curriculum covers seven domains inside the existing Computing, Creative Design and Innovation course with no extra class hours, and Cycle One and Cycle Two students get one lesson every two weeks. That is enough to make a child conversant about AI. It is not enough time to clean a dataset, fit a model, measure the error and work out why the error is what it is. ### What class times work for a Dubai or Sharjah family, and does the time difference mean late nights? No late nights. The UAE is on Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4, exactly one hour and thirty minutes behind India, so when it is 8:00 PM in Mumbai it is 6:30 PM in Dubai. Weekday slots run 17:00 to 18:30 for primary and middle school and 19:30 to 21:00 for Grade 9 to 12 and adults, with Saturday 10:00 to 12:00 for project builds. We also run a Friday 2:00 PM slot on request, which suits Dubai and Abu Dhabi students because schools close by noon on Fridays, and suits Sharjah families even better because Sharjah keeps a four day week. ### How much is this in dirhams, and does the price move? A group batch is USD 40 a month, which is AED 146.90, and one to one teaching is USD 100 a month, which is AED 367.25. Those dirham figures do not drift, because the Central Bank of the UAE has held a fixed peg to the US dollar since 1997 at 1 USD to 3.6725 AED. Your card issuer may add its own foreign transaction fee, which is a bank charge rather than a currency movement. The first class is free and needs no card. ### Will this actually help with MBZUAI or with Khalifa University admissions? It builds the evidence those applications are judged on. MBZUAI received more than 8,000 applications for Fall 2025 and admitted 403 students, an acceptance rate of 5 per cent, and 151 of its incoming graduate students, 27.5 per cent, arrived with degrees from top 100 computer science universities. Khalifa University asks shortlisted undergraduate applicants to sit an admission test covering mathematics and science. Neither is won by tool fluency, so we teach the mathematics inside the machine learning and every student leaves with published projects an admissions reader can open and run. ### UAEU now makes AI compulsory for every undergraduate. Is Python enough to prepare for that? Python is the entry ticket, not the preparation. From the Fall semester of 2025/2026, United Arab Emirates University made AI a mandatory requirement for every student regardless of major, through four introductory courses of which the student takes one. A student who can write Python but has never split a dataset, fitted a model or read a confusion matrix will pass those courses without understanding them. Our teens track puts regression, classification, evaluation and the underlying statistics in front of a school leaver first. ### We are on the Indian April to March year but our neighbours are on the British September to June year. Which batch would my child join? We batch by level and by available slot, never by board, precisely because the UAE runs two academic years side by side. Indian curriculum schools run April to March, while British, American and IB schools run from late August or September to June or July, so a household with one child in each system can still put both in classes on the same evening. We then schedule around whichever exam window applies: CBSE and CISCE boards roughly February to April, IGCSE, AS and A Level in May and June, and IB and AP in May. ### Do your projects use real UAE data, or the same generic datasets every online class uses?
