## Ontario Grade 12 University Math: MHF4U and MCV4U

*A second teacher for Grade 12 university math: functions understood properly, then the calculus and vectors built on them, in step with your school course.*

MHF4U and MCV4U are Ontario's Grade 12 university-preparation math courses. In the ministry's course list, MHF4U is titled Advanced Functions and MCV4U is titled Calculus and Vectors, both issued in 2007. The ministry lists the MHF4U prerequisite as "Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation, or Mathematics for College Technology, Grade 12, College Preparation", and it says "The new Advanced Functions course (MHF4U) must be taken prior to or concurrently with Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)". Both courses also appear in university admission requirements. The University of Waterloo's Computer Science page asks for "Six Grade 12 U and/or M courses including" Advanced Functions and Calculus and Vectors, and the University of Toronto lists MCV4U as a prerequisite for computer science on all three campuses, with MHF4U also listed at Mississauga and Scarborough.

This course runs alongside the student's own MHF4U or MCV4U class, and many students take both in the same year. We follow the order of the student's school course outline, so what is learned here is used in class the same week. What our course teaches for MHF4U students: polynomial and rational functions, trigonometric functions in radians with identities and equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, combining functions, and rates of change. What it teaches for MCV4U students: limits and the derivative, the derivative rules, curve sketching and optimization, then vectors, lines and planes. Every topic starts from meaning, with graphs and small examples, before the algebra. Tests and assignments stay the student's own work: we explain, question and review, and the student does the math.

Please read this plainly: Modern Age Coders teaches alongside school and does not grant Ontario high school credits. Families who need the credit take the course through their school or a ministry-inspected credit provider. What we add is understanding, practice and confidence, in live classes with a real teacher.

**What Makes This Different:**

- Built around Ontario's MHF4U and MCV4U, following the student's own school course outline week by week
- Taught for students taking one course or both at once, with MHF4U ideas reviewed exactly where calculus needs them
- Meaning before algebra: graphs, tables and small examples come first, then the rules and the proofs
- Honest about credits: we teach alongside school and do not grant Ontario high school credits
- Tests and assignments stay the student's own work: we explain and review, we never do school work for them
- Exam review technique taught directly: full written solutions, communication marks and timed practice papers

## Faqs

**Question:** Does this course give my child an Ontario high school credit?

**Answer:** No. Modern Age Coders teaches alongside school and does not grant Ontario high school credits. A family who needs the MHF4U or MCV4U credit takes the course through the student's school or a ministry-inspected credit provider. Our course helps the student understand and do well in the school course they are already taking.

**Question:** What are MHF4U and MCV4U?

**Answer:** They are Ontario's Grade 12 university-preparation math courses. In the ministry's course list, MHF4U is titled Advanced Functions and MCV4U is titled Calculus and Vectors. Your school's course outline gives the detail for your class. In our course, MHF4U students work on polynomial, rational, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions and rates of change, and MCV4U students work on derivatives and their applications, vectors, lines and planes.

**Question:** What do I need before taking MHF4U?

**Answer:** The ministry lists the MHF4U prerequisite as "Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation, or Mathematics for College Technology, Grade 12, College Preparation". Functions, Grade 11, University Preparation is MCR3U. In the first two weeks we refresh the Grade 11 ideas that Grade 12 relies on most.

**Question:** Can my child take MHF4U and MCV4U at the same time?

**Answer:** Yes, and many students do. The ministry says "The new Advanced Functions course (MHF4U) must be taken prior to or concurrently with Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)". When a student takes both at once, we follow both school course outlines and review each MHF4U idea just before calculus needs it.

**Question:** Is MCV4U hard?

**Answer:** It asks for more independence than earlier math courses, and it builds on everything in MHF4U, so a gap in functions shows up quickly in calculus. That is why we teach meaning before algebra, keep a mistakes list, and practise a little every day. Most of the difficulty eases once a student understands what a derivative means rather than only how to compute one.

**Question:** Do universities ask for MHF4U and MCV4U for computer science?

**Answer:** Many do. The University of Waterloo's Computer Science page asks for "Six Grade 12 U and/or M courses including" Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, "Any Grade 12 U English" and "One other 4U course". At the University of Toronto, St. George lists "MCV4U" as a computer science prerequisite, while Mississauga and Scarborough list both "MHF4U" and "MCV4U". Always check each university's current admission page. We make no admission promises; we help the student build real understanding.

**Question:** Does the course follow my school's order?

**Answer:** Yes. Schools order the units differently, so we use the student's own course outline and next test date to set the pace. The plan on this page shows our standard sequence, and each batch follows the order of its students' schools as closely as possible.

**Question:** Will you do my child's assignments or tests?

**Answer:** No. School work stays the student's own. We explain concepts, ask questions, review work the student has written and suggest how to improve it, and we follow the school's rules on outside help. That is also the only kind of help that lasts into the exam room.

**Question:** Can you help with exam review?

**Answer:** Yes. The course teaches exam technique directly: one-page unit summaries, full written solutions that show reasoning, and timed review papers with careful review afterwards. We also use the teacher's exam outline so revision matches what will actually be assessed.

**Question:** Can my child join partway through the school year?

**Answer:** Yes, the course is joinable any month. We start from the student's current unit and next test, fill gaps from earlier units as needed, and keep pace with the school course from then on.

**Question:** How are the classes run?

**Answer:** Live online classes, twice a week, with a real teacher, in a group of 15 to 20 students, a mini batch of up to 6, or 1-on-1. Weekdays or weekends, flexible: choose your batch, or for a very personalised plan choose 1-on-1 at your convenience, weekend mornings or weekdays. Current fees for your region are shown in the pricing section of this page.

**Question:** Can we try a class first?

**Answer:** Yes. Book a free demo class. The teacher looks at where your child is in MHF4U or MCV4U, works through a short problem with them, and suggests whether group, mini batch or 1-on-1 classes fit best. There is no obligation to enrol.

**Question:** Can I watch how you teach before enrolling in this course?

**Answer:** Yes. Full recordings of real, unedited classes for ages 13 and up are free to watch: Free to watch. No payment, no card, just a quick Google sign-in. These recordings show how we teach, not the exact syllabus of this course. Some classes are in English and some in Hindi; everyone follows at their own pace. Watch a class end to end, like you are in it. Sessions are interactive and each moment builds on the last.

**Question:** Can I enroll without a live demo?

**Answer:** Yes. Choose a plan on this page and enrol directly. A demo is optional: if you would like to see a full class with a mentor first, book a Priority Demo, a live class of about 45 to 60 minutes. Questions: WhatsApp +91 91233 66161 or email connect@modernagecoders.com.

4. **Start learning.** Join your first live class at the time you chose. Your mentor takes it from there.

Want to see a class first? Book a Priority Demo: a live class of about 45 to 60 minutes with a mentor reserved for you. If you enrol, the demo fee is adjusted against your first month's fee. Share your demo Order ID with us on WhatsApp and we take it off.

Pay monthly and cancel any time, or pay for 6 months at once and save. Stop a 6-month plan early and every session left is refunded.
