## Functional Skills Maths Level 1 and Level 2 Course Online

*Maths for work and everyday life, taught to adults as adults: percentages, budgets, measures and data, with the exam rules learned early so nothing surprises you on the day.*

Functional Skills maths is a qualification built around using maths in real situations: a pay rise worked out as a percentage, a room measured for flooring, a timetable read correctly, a chart that might be misleading. The Department for Education sets the content at Entry Levels 1 to 3 and Levels 1 and 2, and every level is organised into the same three areas: using numbers and the number system, using common measures, shape and space, and handling information and data. Level 2 is the level many employers, apprenticeships and college courses ask for.

Ofqual's rules shape how it is examined. A quarter of the marks are for questions done without a calculator and three quarters with one. A quarter assess underpinning skills, maths on its own, and three quarters assess problem solving in context. Several awarding organisations offer the qualification, each setting its own papers within those rules, so we teach the shared content and practise in the style your exam centre uses.

The course runs in four phases: number, then measures, shape and space, then data, then exam practice with both the non-calculator and calculator sections. Lessons are live and small, aimed at people who may not have done maths for years, and they run at times that fit around work and family.

**What Makes This Different:**

- Built from the Department for Education's Functional Skills maths subject content and Ofqual's conditions and requirements
- The non-calculator quarter of the exam practised from week one, so mental methods and written methods are secure
- Problems set in real contexts adults recognise: pay, bills, recipes, travel, home improvement and workplace data
- Level 1 and Level 2 taught as clear tracks, with a starting check that places you correctly
- Practice in the style of your exam centre's awarding organisation in the final phase
- Patient, judgement-free teaching for adults returning to maths after a long break

### Learning Path

**Phase 1:** Using numbers: whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion, with and without a calculator

**Phase 2:** Using measures, shape and space: money and budgeting, units and conversion, area, perimeter, volume and scale

**Phase 3:** Handling information and data: tables, charts and graphs, averages and range, and probability

**Phase 4:** Exam practice: underpinning skills and problem solving, the non-calculator and calculator sections, and full practice assessments

**Career Outcomes:**

- Confidence with the maths in everyday work: percentages, measures, budgets and data
- Secure non-calculator methods and sensible calculator use
- A routine for reading a problem in context and showing your working
- Practice assessments completed under timing before your real exam
- A route on to GCSE maths for learners who want to go further

## Faqs

**Question:** What is Functional Skills maths?

**Answer:** A qualification that tests maths in real situations. The Department for Education sets the content at Entry Levels 1 to 3 and Levels 1 and 2, in three areas: using numbers and the number system, using common measures, shape and space, and handling information and data.

**Question:** Is Functional Skills maths Level 2 equivalent to a GCSE?

**Answer:** Both are level 2 qualifications, but they are different qualifications with different content and exams. Some employers, apprenticeships and courses accept either, and some ask specifically for GCSE. Check the exact requirement with the organisation you are applying to.

**Question:** Can you use a calculator in Functional Skills maths?

**Answer:** For most of it. Ofqual's rules say 25% of the marks are for questions done without a calculator and 75% for questions where a calculator is allowed. This course practises the non-calculator section from the first week.

**Question:** How long does it take to pass Functional Skills maths Level 2?

**Answer:** It depends on where you start. This course is planned as about six months for a full level, and the starting check shows whether you need all of it. We cannot promise a result, but we make sure every part of the content and both exam sections are covered.

**Question:** Can I study Functional Skills maths online?

**Answer:** Yes, the teaching is fully online and live. The exam is taken through an approved exam centre, such as a college or training provider, which makes the entry. We teach the content and practise in the style of the awarding organisation you will sit with.

**Question:** What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

**Answer:** The subject content describes problem solving as straightforward at Level 1 and complex at Level 2. Level 2 adds topics such as percentage change, inverse proportion, compound interest, compound measures, circles, cylinders, scatter diagrams and estimating a mean from grouped data.

**Question:** I failed GCSE maths. Should I do Functional Skills instead?

**Answer:** It can be a good route, especially for work or an apprenticeship. If you are 16 to 18 on a study programme, your college follows the government's condition of funding rules, which link the choice to your GCSE grade. We also run a GCSE maths resit course, and the free demo can help you decide.

**Question:** Are classes available in the evening?

**Answer:** Yes. Most learners on this course work, so we run evening and weekend options, and one-to-one lessons can be booked at times that suit you.

**Question:** How are the classes run?

**Answer:** Live online classes with a real teacher, in a group of 15 to 20 adults at a similar level or one to one. Current fees for your region are shown in the pricing section of this page.

**Question:** Can I try a lesson first?

**Answer:** Yes. Book a free demo class. The teacher works through a few everyday maths problems with you, sees where you are, and suggests Level 1 or Level 2 and group or one-to-one teaching. There is no obligation to enrol.

**Question:** Can I watch how you teach before enrolling in this course?

**Answer:** Yes. Full recordings of real, unedited classes for ages 13 and up are free to watch: Free to watch. No payment, no card, just a quick Google sign-in. These recordings show how we teach, not the exact syllabus of this course. Some classes are in English and some in Hindi; everyone follows at their own pace. Watch a class end to end, like you are in it. Sessions are interactive and each moment builds on the last.

**Question:** Can I enroll without a live demo?

**Answer:** Yes. Choose a plan on this page and enrol directly. A demo is optional: if you would like to see a full class with a mentor first, book a Priority Demo, a live class of about 45 to 60 minutes. Questions: WhatsApp +91 91233 66161 or email connect@modernagecoders.com.
