## ACT Math Prep Course

*Forty-five questions in fifty minutes. We rebuild the maths underneath, then train the pace.*

The ACT mathematics section has 45 questions to answer in 50 minutes, and a calculator is allowed. ACT describes it as testing the skills students have typically acquired in courses taken up to the beginning of grade 12, which means a student sitting it in grade 11 often meets topics they have not been taught yet, or learned once and forgot. At a little over a minute per question, there is no time to rebuild an idea in the exam room.

This 5-month live course follows ACT's own published reporting categories. Preparing for Higher Math makes up about 80 percent of the section and is split into Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Integrating Essential Skills makes up about 20 percent: rates, percentages, proportional relationships, area and volume, averages and medians, combined in multi-step problems. Modeling questions are counted across the other categories. We teach every category, starting from a diagnostic so time goes where the points are being lost.

The last month turns knowledge into a score you can repeat: pacing plans, calculator strategy for both handheld calculators and the Desmos calculator built into the online ACT, and full timed math sections with question-by-question review. ACT scores are based on the number of questions answered correctly, with no penalty for wrong answers, so students also learn when to move on and how to make sure no question is left blank. We never promise a score; we show the evidence from each timed section so families can see exactly where things stand.

**What Makes This Different:**

- Built on ACT's own published content categories, with time weighted toward Preparing for Higher Math, which makes up about 80 percent of the section
- A diagnostic in week one and an error log kept all course, so teaching goes where points are actually being lost
- Understanding first: topics a student has not yet met in school, such as logarithms, matrices or conic sections, are taught from the start
- Pacing trained explicitly for 45 questions in 50 minutes, with a plan for which questions to bank and which to leave for the second pass
- Calculator strategy for permitted handheld models and for the Desmos calculator in the online ACT
- Honest progress reporting from timed sections, never invented score promises

### Learning Path

## Faqs

**Question:** What is on the ACT math section?

**Answer:** 45 questions in 50 minutes, and a calculator is allowed. ACT reports two main categories: Preparing for Higher Math, about 80 percent, split into Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability; and Integrating Essential Skills, about 20 percent, covering rates, percentages, proportional relationships, area and volume, and averages and medians. Modeling questions are counted across the other categories.

**Question:** Can I use a calculator on the ACT math section?

**Answer:** Yes. ACT allows four-function, scientific and graphing calculators unless a model is prohibited, and calculators with computer algebra system functionality are not allowed. Students taking the ACT online have the Desmos graphing calculator built into the testing platform during the math section. We teach both, and we teach which questions are faster by hand. Always check ACT's current calculator policy before test day.

**Question:** Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

**Answer:** No. ACT scores are based on the number of questions answered correctly, with no penalty for incorrect answers. That is why our pacing plan makes sure every question gets an answer, even the ones a student flags and leaves for the end.

**Question:** My child has not taken pre-calculus yet. Is that a problem?

**Answer:** It is common. ACT says the section covers skills typically acquired in courses up to the beginning of grade 12, so many grade 11 students meet topics such as logarithms, matrices, complex numbers or conic sections before school has covered them. The course teaches those topics from the start rather than assuming them.

**Question:** How does the math section affect the composite score?

**Answer:** ACT's Composite score is the average of the English, math and reading scores, rounded to the nearest whole number. Science is optional and is not part of the Composite. Scores run up to 36 for the Composite and for each section.

**Question:** Should my child take the ACT or the SAT?

**Answer:** Both are widely accepted, and the right choice depends on the student. We suggest taking a practice test of each and comparing. If the SAT turns out to suit better, we also run a SAT Math course, and much of the algebra and function work carries across.

**Question:** When should we start?

**Answer:** Ideally five months before the planned test date, so all categories and the full timed sections fit before test day. Students with less time get a shortened plan based on their diagnostic, focused on the categories where they are losing the most points.

**Question:** Do you guarantee a score increase?

**Answer:** No, and we would be wary of anyone who does. What we do promise is a clear diagnostic, teaching aimed at the categories where points are being lost, regular timed sections, and honest reporting so you can see the progress for yourself.

**Question:** How are the classes run?

**Answer:** Live online classes, twice a week, with a real teacher, in a group of 15 to 20 students, a mini batch of up to 6, or one to one. Current fees for your region are shown in the pricing section of this page.

**Question:** Can we try a class first?

**Answer:** Yes. Book a free demo class. The teacher works through some ACT-style questions with your child, sees where they are, and suggests a plan and whether group, mini batch or one-to-one classes fit best. There is no obligation to enrol.

**Question:** Can I watch how you teach before enrolling in this course?

**Answer:** Yes. Full recordings of real, unedited classes for ages 13 and up are free to watch: Free to watch. No payment, no card, just a quick Google sign-in. These recordings show how we teach, not the exact syllabus of this course. Some classes are in English and some in Hindi; everyone follows at their own pace. Watch a class end to end, like you are in it. Sessions are interactive and each moment builds on the last.

**Question:** Can I enroll without a live demo?

**Answer:** Yes. Choose a plan on this page and enrol directly. A demo is optional: if you would like to see a full class with a mentor first, book a Priority Demo, a live class of about 45 to 60 minutes. Questions: WhatsApp +91 91233 66161 or email connect@modernagecoders.com.

## Straight answers about this course

### Who should take this course?

Grades 9-12 (ages 14 to 18), all starting scores. It suits students whose practice results show content gaps in algebra, functions or geometry that need rebuilding, not more drilling; grade 10 and 11 students meeting topics such as logarithms, matrices or conic sections before school has taught them; students with good grades whose timed results do not match, usually a pacing and method gap.

### What will they learn and build?

The ACT mathematics section has 45 questions to answer in 50 minutes, and a calculator is allowed. ACT describes it as testing the skills students have typically acquired in courses taken up to the beginning of grade 12, which means a student sitting it in grade 11 often meets topics they have not been taught yet, or learned once and forgot.

### How deeply are topics covered?

The course runs 5 months (20 weeks) at 2 live one-hour classes per week + weekly timed practice, across 3 phases listed week by week in the syllabus below. A structured plan built on ACT's own published mathematics reporting categories.

### Who teaches it?

Modern Age Coders mentors, who teach the live classes themselves. You can watch them at work in the free class recordings before you decide.

### How do practice, feedback and assessment work?

Classwork every session, a problem set after every class, checkpoints at the end of each phase, and a final full timed section that decides the certificate. Doubt support between classes over WhatsApp, so you are never left stuck. A certificate you earn by passing the final assessment, with a free retest after revision if needed.

### What does it cost?

Three monthly plans: a group batch, a mini batch and 1-on-1. [Prices are shown in your currency in the plans section](https://learn.modernagecoders.com/courses/act-math-prep-course/#enroll). Monthly billing, cancel any time.
